Has anyone here forced a patina/ created a pattern on the San Mai III blade? I am curious how "easy" (depending on time and process) it would take to San Mai steel and how it would look like? If you have any pictures of such project....please post. Thank you!

I think 420J2 is the outermost layer of San Mai III. That is one of the more corrosion resistant steels. You'd have a hell of a time patinaing that.

Yes, that's what I thought too... that it would be pretty tough to force a patina on that outer layer... 'just curious if anyone has ever attempted? :)

You could acid wash the blade. You'd have to be careful to protect the edge and pivot areas. Also, I don't know if any other procautions would have to be taken due to the fact that it is a laminate steel.
