Forcing patina on laser etchings?

Has anyone put patinas on the laser etchings on their ESEEs? I don't really want to baby my Izula and worry about the slight rust, but rust just turns me off. I'm thinking about trying a bbq or mustard patina and just filling in the laser etchings with q-tips. Think it will work to discourage rust on them? I think it might add a little charm to the knife in the process.

Oh, forgot to mention I had it wrapped up, but just ordered the scales. Not sure if the scales will be less of or more of a problem for them.

worth trying - I've heard of folks getting good results with a blueing pen as well.

Well, I just tried a 30 minute mustard patina and got nothing. I'm going to have to find my vinegar. :(

Vinegar likely won't work. I've had nothing put a patina on laser etch. I don't think that it's likely that they will take rust if they're not going to take patina anyway. I can't say empirically that it won't rust. But it seems doubtful.

God bless,
Adam

Well, they've already got little rust spots so that's why I was even worried. I had never tried a mustard patina before, but vinegar always seemed to do a great job. I still haven't found mine yet, and I don't really feel like going to the grocery store just for vinegar lol.

Kenny,

Gotcha, I didn't figure it could rust. Ok, reassessing the the Patina on my Izy, yeah it can take on the laser etchings, it just doesn't seem to take near as easy as anything else on the blade. My apologies on the misinformation. Get your vinegar out and SOAK it.

God bless,
Adam

I used lime juice let me upload a pic...

Here is what I did. I sliced a lime and just wiped the lime over the laser etchings once about every 5 min for an hour, I got a nice dark gray patina.

That looks really nice. I think I'd rather do that than a patina.
I wonder how it would look against OD green though.
Probably pretty good, it just won't have the contrast that it does with the sand color.

Pea-Ta's Gray looks great with the Black and would probably look good with the OD too.
The Blue looks excellent with the Sand though. :)

You guys are some creative thinkers..... ;)

I just got my 6 today and decided to lime the laser etchings along with my 4, this was done like my Izula. Sliced lime in half and wiped etchings about every 5 min for an hour.
