Back in the early 70s, my grandfather gave me what appeared to be a really old camp knife. He told me that one of his navy chums from Tennessee gave it to him during WWII.

Until I get some pics up, I would like to describe it in hope that someone could provide a bit more information.

The scales on both sides appear to be bone (dark brown). They could be plastic, but based upon its age, I'm assuming bone.

There are fold out full sized stainless steel spoon and fork (both stamped with "Stainless Steel")

On one side there is a clip point knife (stamped "Forest Friend Japan"), a saw, scissors, a combination can opener/bottle opener and some kind of a shaving blade that only folds out half way.

The opposite side has an awl, a flat screwdriver, a file and a corkscrew.

All tools, except for the fork and spoon, appear to be some kind of carbon steel and have heavy patina.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Well, lets get something going here.

I remember these types of knives from when I was a child and they seemed like a good idea. But, based upon what I have seen, I think they may have turned out to be simply a novelty - I have never seen anyone use one except in an old movie.

I think part of the problem was that they were not made from the better available materials of the time.
