forge exhaust

Dunno about an exhaust pipe, but I would install some sort of hood and fan to rid of dangerous fumes, carbon monoxide from a propane forge will kill ya pretty quick if your not carefull, we also installed a carbon monoxide detector in the the shop that monitors the air quality and gives a readout every couple minutes, with an alarm if levels get too high....Stay safe.. My forge is located two steps from my garage door, when i open my walk door and the garage door at the same time i get a natural draft, unless the wind is absolutely still.
A hood and chimney over the forge would probaly be a good idea, the chimney would draw of its own. I have seen forges vented out the side wall with a hood and blower. I think this all kinda depends on the location, and kind of building you are using.
I still want to build an open air forge area, I think that would be ideal for me, roof with a large overhang, half wall and shutters to close up shop when not in use.
Ahhh, one of these days.

My forge is kinda noisy. i thought I might put a afterburner cone on It and try it on my boat.
Had 1 of those carbon monoxide detectors but it kept going off so I threw it away.
Seriously though. My shop has a exhaust fan on 1 end that will exchange the air in my shop in 2 minutes. I keep a window at the other end open so I have airflow through the Whole shop.
You need to have a fresh supply of air as the forge burns up a lot of oxygen.I will be building a lean two on the side of the shop pretty soon.

Take care

I seriously recommend using an exhaust/heed/extractor of some sort.
If you ever get a whiff of fumes off the forge then you know you've been taking in that carbon monoxide as well. The trouble with carbon monoxide is that it is odourless, you won't even know you're breathing the stuff in.

Yep better get rid of the fumes
They will kill ya!
An old hood with a fan at the top going outside and a circulation fan is great.
Open air is even better.
