So I am trying to make a wood/charcoal fired forge, since my usual forge (the ground) isnt working any more. I have a propane forge made from a couple 1' by 1' square bricks, and I was wondering if I could just use that for wood and charcoal, since the propane burner I had just wasnt hot enough.

you can use red bricks, however you will need about 1" of refractary cement lining them. otherwise they will crack faster than 1095 in brine!
