I recently picked up a forge project that was not completed. It is 9 inches diameter x 16 inch long round tube and not yet lined. I have always used a single layer of 1 inch ceramic blanket and line with satanite for both of my other propane forges. The unfinished forge came with plenty of 2 inch blanket, i have a bunch of 1 inch ceramic blanket, 5 pounds of green patch 421, at least five pounds of plistix and I have plenty of satanite.

How would you go about lining this forge with these products?
Thanks

John

Which plistix product is it? Are you planning on forge welding?

So if I were to have these materials and I was making a general use kind of forge, is go with the one inch blanket and then 1/4 inch of satanite.
If I were trying to make a knife making forge where I was trying to do some forge welding I would use the 2 inch blanket, a thin layer of satanite to act as rigidizer and then a good later of the green patch at least 1/4". I don't know how resistant to flux the green patch is, but I know for sure that satanite and the blanket will melt like butter under hot flux.
If you're going to use flux is get a fire brick or some bubble alumina for the floor.
