forge making

George's answer is a good one (Hi Indian George!)

"The Best Design" depends on your resources. It can be anything from Goddard's design (about $10 but heats only smaller pieces) or a simple fire pit with a blower. You can dig a hole in the ground, build a wood fire in it, let it burn down to coals and then apply a forced air source (hair dryer, squirrel cage fan or the exhaust for a vacuum or whatever.) It's probably not the most effecient and how useful it is to you depends on what tools and facilities you have available to you.

Good luck!

Mike

You can build a forge out of dirt, dig a hole and charcoal fire and air.

You can fill a washtub or bucket with dirt and or wood ash to get it up off the ground, if you prefer. The best forge is what get's it hot when you want it. my .02
