Completed the press last weekend. My cylinder is too slow currently and I need to change from a 1725 RPM motor to a 3600 RPM to double pump output and speed. Currently I am getting about an inch a second movement.

How fast does the ram on your press move guys??

Get the faster motor but try a two stage pump as well. The two stage pump will make a lot of difference.

Bill, Micky is right. Mine has the 2 stage pump and 3600 rpm motor. It moves 1.5" per second. As soon as it touches the work it slows down and starts to sqeeze hard. Make sure your pump is rated for 3600 rpm to match the motor.

Bill, It sounds like if you put the 3600 rpm motor on it will be perfect. Thats too easy. Let us know how it works.

I'll post the results and some pics of the monster after I change out the motor. Now to find a 5 HP, 3600 RPM "C" frame motor I can afford! I have a tank style with the motor vertical and the pump is in the tank and covered w/ fluid. Sure is quiet compared to the exposed style.

Whats the high and low GPM and PSI on your pump.
When I built my press I looked all over for a sbmerged pump with enough GPM and PSI but I couldn't find one.
The other problem that most people overlook is the GPM rating of the controler itself. A 18 GPM pump will not do any good if you are trying to flow through a 12 GPM control.
Also the larger the dia. of your cylinder the slower your ram will move at any GPM.
My ram seems to move about 2 inches/sec with no load.
