Got lots planned for this lil' baby...

8" horizontal forge from Darren Ellis

Thanks to anybody and everybody who has helped me along the way. I am excited to begin forging my own stuff, right here at home.

Here's a lil' pic and a link to go with it:

Thats great, you'll love it! Forging is fun :)
Thanks for the shop tour too, intersting read. I need to make one sometime too.

Is that a harbor freight shop vac under your forge? Those babies crank!

Great set up - I especially like the big tank! Sorry I haven't responded re: the KMG motor. All the info on the tag is worn off - I'll email you soon.

Best,

PJG

Looks great Dan! Can't wait to see some finished pieces from it. The shop tour is nice. Gotta get my butt in gear and put mine together now that I see how you laid yours out.

Nice shop tour, Danno. Pride and careful consideration is evident in everything there.

Very nice. And thanks for the shop tour.

You are putting on the Satanite pretty thick--any problems with the wool balling up, etc.?

Also, Did you pour the bubble alumina over the Kaowool like typical castable refractory?

Thanks,

John Frankl

That looks like a 40lb propane tank? Nice.

You might want to consider moving it a little further away from the forge however, because if the propane tank ever vents near the forge due to freezing or some other unforseen circumstance, the ensuing fireball could become rather ...toasty :)

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'll take all the encouragement I can get.

Aiko555 - yes, it's the HF special. Great lil' pumper. No sweat on the KMG - take your time. :D

John - the satanite went on real easy. Kinda like frosting a cake or applying plaster. My father-in-law is a mason, so after I slopped it all in there, he lovingly and carefully molded it into nearly a perfect cylinder (which I then filled up with the goopy/bumpy alumina  )

jiminy - yes, it's a 40 lber. So far so good. Have no idea how long it will last. Hopefully twice as long as a 20 lber. :D

Thanks for the safety note - I plan on moving it back, away from the forge.

The anvils are just out of the picture on the bottom right. One 80 lber and two railroad track anvils (still in progress).
