Here is a photo of a small axe that I forged from an old stone mason's hammer. I usually only use a known steel when I make an axe but this was laying around and it looked like a lot of fun to make. I guessed at the proper heat treating by using 1095 specs thinking that it had to be a high carbon steel: looks like I got it right after doing some chopping it holds an excellent edge. Fun.
