If you could name 5 makers who make forged blades for folders (that is, forged-blade sole authorship folders), who would they be? The list is limited to makers who are living.

Please!!!

In the words of those who have been posting for 15 years or more....."it turns into a popularity contest"....and frankly, becomes populated by fanboys, or as we say now...."mentally handicapped people", more than anything else, and then the value of a list like this automatically becomes questionable.....

....frankly just about any ABS maker that makes folders with a "JS" or "MS" stamp on it HAS to by definition forge that blade, so you might try a search on the ABS website as well.

Welcome to BFC, is IS an adventure!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I don't know of any folder makers who forge folder blades to shape.
But many makers cut & grind blades from forged bar stock, as do I...

A better question might be, which makers make their own damascus, or forge their own bar stock.

Peppster, welcome to BF. Please don't let the sharp response to your first post discourage you from posting or participating here. This really is a cordial forum where all questions are welcome. I sense your question was genuine, in that you would like to know the names of makers who forge their own Damascus for folders, as rephrased by Don. Steven's point, although a bit harsh IMO, was valid if you were asking for "whose the best" or "who are the top" makers. That question gets asked a lot and it does often turn into a popularity contest. There are inevitably makers who don't get named. But your question doesn't ask that, it only ask for names of makers who forge Damascus for folder blades.

My bad, I just noticed that the TITLE of your post does ask for names of the TOP 5 Makers. I only read the question. Steven's point is valid based upon past experience. But, welcome and please continue to ask questions.
