I have akways been a big fan of the Chute knives and especially of the Maker's who do them so well, like Deitmar Kressler, John Young, Bob Loveless, Maseo Takahashi, Mike Lovett, S.R. Johnson, etc. I just love the blade/handle proportions and the handle profile. So! I just decided to do one myself with the twist of being a hammer and anvil type guy, since all of the above mentioned ones are done in Stainless!
Here's what I came up with -
Forged down from my 1" square 5160, fully hardened blade with full convex grind.
My Andersen Forges style "high and low" guard, but in hot-blued Mild Steel, with a litle checkering on top!
Stabilized Bubinga contoured handle in a Take-down configuration.
I'm tellin' ya, I've been walking around all day with this thing in my hand! Tha balance is right where it needs to be. The palm swell hits me dead in the center of my palm "pocket" and I am so diggin' this Bubinga lately, I just really am pleased with the whole package.
Soon as I get the sheath done I will be listing it "For Sale".

This is a GREAT looking KNIFE ! Congrats. Looks like you got the palm swell in the right place! Is the top clip sharp? It is part of the definition of a true Chute, It has to be able to cut on a back stroke. Nice work! Mike

Thanks for the kind words! I mean that!
No, I didn't sharpen it, because, well, I just didn't. I filed the clip close enough that it could be sharpened with little effort.
I'm not even quite sure I can call it a "Chute" knife, but I HAD to call it somethin' and that's what I was trying to emulate!
It's my first one, and, like all of my other stuff, it will evolve!
I truly love the ones you, and the others I mentioned, create.
Thanks so much for your input.
I'm honored.

This is a nice knife - I mean that sincerely - but it isn't a chute.

Hey, I don't give a Rat's patootie what you call it; I call it a sweet looking knife. And, that bubinga IS some great looking wood.

Now that I think about it, it looks like a cross between a Bowie, and a Chute! Would you call that a chewie? I know, It's a beaut. Spelled Butte out west. (ie. Here). Because it's a reall beauty, what ever you call it! Mike

kinda halfway between a Loveless Chute and a Moran Airman maybe? Very nice as usual, my friend:thumbup:

Throw in a splash of Ed Fowler bowie, and methinks we have nailed the description.

The handle is the best part of this knife.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

The guard, the blade, and the way the guard meets the handle reminds me of Michael Veit's knives - not a bad thing at all.

I think calling a knife a chute knife is going to bring in a lot of criticism if it doesn't very closely resemble a Loveless.

A little ironic considering how loosely the terms "hunter, fighter, or bowie" are used... but then again, a chute really is a Loveless gig.

I don't think I'd call it a chute knife just due to the risk of stoning, but it's a very nicely executed knife and I love your handle shaping! :D

Geez, guys, ok!
Didn't you ever call one of your knives what you wanted to just 'cause?
Actually, I'm honored to have ya'll participate in this thread.
I had fun making the knife, and that's what it's all about.
What it's called is irrelevant.
I think I'll call it a cross between a Bowie and a Chute - A Bhutie!

Hey Jdm61! Chute and Airman! That would make it " THE Chairman"! I like it! What ever it is, a very nicley executed Knive! Mike
