Just finished this up, and it's probably my most succesful attempt at a hamon so far, though I have another in the works that I think is gonna be better.

Anyway, it's forged 1084, w/ some light forge marks left in spine, and the ricasso was left as forged. The fittings are wrought iron, and the handle is a root off of a cedar stump. I vaccum treated the wood with nelsonite, and am very pleased with it. Im not sure where it origionally came from, but it's been out of the ground about 25yrs that I know of, and i imagine the tree was at least 3x's that old.

And here are a couple more 1084 blades in the works.

This one is getting closer to completion, it's already been heat treated, and I believe it has a really sweet hamon, but we'll have to wait and see for sure.
It's forged 1084,wrought and red stag.

and this is also 1084, still have alot of work to do on it, and not to sure what type of guard to use, something simple, any suggestions???
the handle is maple crotch wood, and has spectacular figure in it, and it's also been vaccum treated with nelsonite.

That hamon does look very good. I'm not as fond of the handle. Just my personal preference, but I think it would look better with the ferrule and ricasso being the same width.

The stag bowie is going to look really good.

I would think about putting an extended S-guard on that bottom knife, or giving it a Mediterranean dirk, gaucho knife type bolster.

Keith took the words right out of my mouth.

yeah i agree, the ricasso could have been smaller, or the handle bigger, im giving this to my grandfather, the cedar stump used was one of them big twisted looking hunks of wood that was in my grandmothers flower garden for as long as i can remember, most was bug eaten, but i salvaged a few pieces and i really like the grain, plus i can remember being a kid and it being in the yard.

as for the lower knife, thats the stye guard i meant , but i didnt know thats what it was called??

thanks all
