Yup.

Here are a couple that I have been working on. The blades are stock removal 1080 and the handles are forged 6061 Aluminum. They will be going out for candy red powdercoat when I get the series done.

What 'cha think?

The bark design is very nice! My first thought was, "them things look cold". Maybe the Candy red will warm them up a bit. Nice work indeed!!

Avoiding the "cold" look has been the toughest thing with aluminum. I am hoping the warm colors and change in texture will help. I managed to keep them pretty light. That should help with the in hand impression.

Thanks for all the comments!

How are you getting the blade finish? i love that satin look

That is fresh off the Bader Trizact. It is the 320 equivilant. A65 I think? I plan to hand satin finish these.

Very cool! Non-ferrous forging is a nice change of pace isn't it? :)

Yeah!

I really enjoy forging aluminum. It is a little like forging Play Doh but it is fun.

I realy like the looks of the handles.
I like them the way they are just now

Me too.

I am a little concerned that around salt water there may be some galvanitic corrosion with a raw finish. I plan to do some with a clear finish as well.

Thanks for the comments!

I really like the look. Anxious to see what the powder coat does to it, but frankly think the dull finish of the metal is attractive too.

I'd like to see how that coating on the handle turned out.

Do you have any photos that aren't at such a cock-eyed angle; where we can see the handle better ?

Did the coating fill in the more subtle textures?

My first thought on seeing the first pic was "Cool, it looks like petrified wood". Looks really nice with the coating, too. Very innovative! Just don't use 'em winter without gloves, I guess :)

BTW the blades look great, too, nice functional design

It does fill in the more subtle texture. This coat consists of a metallic silver basecoat with a tinted red clear over it for the shimmer/flip flop effect. The silver kind of shows up along the ridges and around the screw holes.

These are still pretty cock-eyed, but you get the idea.
