Any of yall watching this new series? It's on Monday nights on the History Channel. I made one of the Judges (J. Neilson) a sheath last November. Noticed last night he was wearing it during the show. The show is a pretty cool concept - but I thought having one of my sheaths making a cameo appearance was personal achievement - if even by luck. :D

Thanks for the heads up - I'll check it out! Congrats on the cameo. I have 2 of your sheathes and they're awesome!!!

Yea I've been watching it. Some of it is enjoyable, some informative and like most things these days on tv, annoying. However, your sheath being there is about the coolest thing yet..Awesome Bud..

Interesting show. I only saw it because it is on the History Chanel and I have been going to their website to watch Alone.

Does anyone know any of the guys that have been on the show? It seems that their levels of competence vary widely, as does the quality of the knives they produce.

That's awesome Bud! I just heard about that show. Looking forward to checking it out.

I've been watching.
tis a bit silly.
Your sheath is the best part.
Was it the in pocket clip sheath in his back pocket.
I spotted it last night.
I've got to get me one for my FF Patch.

It's unusual for sure .. but I know what they're challenging the competitors with is extremely difficult.
The silly part .. sorta but have you ever seen one of those knife chopping competitions? If it was on TV, I'd watch it - but in person I get bored.

He was wearing in his back right pocket. I emailed him about to confirm it was the sheath I made. He told me he has difficulties keeping a knife if he wears it and true to form someone has already bought the knife/sheath off of him.

I saved pics of it when it was here last November. I still kept the design ambidextrous but made a stepped/formed welt so the knife would not wiggle.

Cool about your sheath...

I am actually enjoying the show more than I thought I would!

By that I mean, I'm thrilled to watch the forging process, the different styles, the various tests.

What I don't enjoy? The arbitrary, artificial pressures of docu-drama "reality" TV.

To give the smiths a challenge without the time constraint would be so much more satisfying -- to me. I don't enjoy telling these masters "Your blade didn't make the cut." and then sending a brilliant maker home because of artificial time constraints that hindered heat treating and caused a blade to crack or snap -- again, to me!

It would be so much more satisfying, to me, to let the makers present a project/challenge that is completed to their own personal requirements and standards and let the judges have a really hard time deciding which blade is "best". I would love to have them give more educational information: metallurgy, functional design elements, heat treating data, etc. I'd love them to make it a truly informative and educational program for novice and expert alike. Get inside the judges head even more: what are they looking for and why or why didn't a blade make the grade.

The last episode I watched, a smith is in the final round and said, "I haven't come close to showing my best work. The contest really messes me up." Another said, "I'm in my home forge now I can show what I can really do."

So, again to me, the time constraints and artificial competition brings down the overall quality of the final products (blades and show). But, it probably brings in a lot more viewers....

(I'm the kind of guy that I actually watched the credits to see if they listed the judges knives and accessories. You know many shows do. "Mr. Neilson's shirt by Cabella's and sheath by bonafied" but they listed nothing.)

Overall I'm happy that it's on -- even with the few flaws that perhaps only I see....

Again, congrats on being anonymously in the show...

 Congrats Bud! Nice looking sheath. I'll have to check out the show.

No you're not the only one seeing through the fog. It's TV not reality.

I think that it's fun for a lot of people and it's regular TV, you get what you pay for. I watch it just to see forges and hot steel getting hammered. Good to see knife/weapon forging getting some exposure regardless of the over all content. No sense in worrying over the miscues and, at times, bad information 'cause it is TV. I do wish that I knew more about the judges and participants. There is a fella in Acworth, Ga., who is a close friend of mine and Andy's, that I firmly believe could walk right through that show and take all the money. Problem is, he's a tad short tempered with TV in general and I doubt would put up with it. Besides that, you couldn't get him to put on makeup.

There's a short bio on each Judge & Host on the website I linked .. but nothing on the participants.

Holy schnitz! Just watched the first episode and I am hooked! These guys are doing what I feel like I would love to do (but know I don't have the cajones to do so)
