I just wanted to show you my new knife.
I wanted to put on a handle but since I wanted to drill the holes in the annealed tang after hardening I had a little problem.
(I was in a hurry and send the blade out to HT with the ones I had finished).

I wasn't able to anneal the tang with a torch so I could drill my holes.

You can see the marks where I tried to drill them and ruined a good drill bit.
I just have to find a way to get them black again.

And all that's why I put a satinfinish on it and called it a neckknife :D.

Although it's 5 mm thick (but tapered to the tip) it cuts and shaves like mad.
But that's probably also due to the new way of sharpening I discovered this morning.
It also fits great and comfortably in my hand.

Some specs:

Steel: 1.2842 (O2)
Lenght: 16,5 cm
Blade: 8,5 cm

Looking forward to your opinion.

I think it's absolutely beautiful. The contrast of the perfect satin finish with the rough steel finish is great! Very nice! Sometimes great things come out of mistakes!

I've been looking at historic type Bowies lately and have grown fond of the rustic appearances many makers use for such blades....yes, it looks cool as is.......now, about that new way of sharpening?????????

Actually, mistake or not, I really like the contrast of the dark, pitted steel with the smooth finish and clean lines. With the pits running along beside the spine like that, it looks quite intentional.
