After much talk about maker participation, I'm going to work on posting more photos here.

This one was lost in the St.Louis show thread, so I thought I would show it alone.

9.5" 1086M blade, damascus bolsters and mammoth ivory scales, 14.5" OAL

Please let me know what ya'll think.

Thanks!

I think its gorgeous. I especially love the dark bolsters in contrast to the creamy handle. Great recurve blade.

What!
Not W2!! :D

Beautiful, elegant, wish it were mine! Thanks for giving us a look Don.

Don, I'm not sure why but your work 'speaks to me' more than just about any other maker...

Beautiful work on an incredibly consistent basis!

Thanks very much for the look. I wish I could tell what that sort of geometry (~slim, low tip, recurve) would feel like.

Along with the beautiful blade, I really like the way the design/materials make the blade look so rooted in the handle (or hand).

Don, I've had the priviledge of handling several of your pieces lately, and now I'm comparing the actual knives to a photo. Further, I can only tell you what appeals to me which is strictly subjective. I really like the blade a lot. Shape, recurve, hamon, the works, I really like. I prefer the guard models I have held in my hand to this bolstered version, and also the handle shape on your bowie and fighter styles I held are more to my personal taste. Having said that, this piece is beautifully done and other than my personal taste I find no fault. Thanks again for taking the time to show it.

Absolutely beautiful knife. The only detail I could see that would enhance it aesthetically would be some sort of design on the pins holding the scales on.

Strictly a matter of opinion naturally.:D

All of your work is exceptional. I like sunfish pattern folders and I recall you made some stellar ones in the past.

It is ALWAYS a pleasure to see your knives, hopefully i'll have the opportunity to hold one (or more) eventually.

Great piece Don! You already know how much I like this piece and your work in general. The overall flow of the design and profile lines are great. The fit and finish is superb. The hamon and colors in the blade are very eye catching and give the knife pizzazz. The only possible suggestion I can think of, would be to echo or carry the lines of the hamon through the handle with some shallow relief carving,… or "repetition of form". :)

Another extraordinary piece, Don......

That is some of the nicest Mammoth Ivory I have seen in sometime.

The hamon has a "leaf" like quality to it that might be interesting to see carried through in the handle in sort of shallow relief carving. Not that it would need to be an exact repetition,... but rather the hamon could sort of "grow" out of the handle. It would of course tone down the hamon a bit and make the transition from blade to handle a bit less abrupt.

However, this is just a suggestion, but it may be of some value in future works.

The piece stands fine on it’s own. :)

Thanks Much Guys!

Tai, I don't do much carving anymore but I can See what you mean, may put that to use on a future piece.

Chuck, Bruce, I used hidden pins in the bolsters, they are a press fit and also an industrial Lock-tite glue to seal the joint.

I took these photos, not Coop quality but shows the knife well.

Let's see more knives posted here

I think one of the most difficult fabrication factors makers face is maintaining a good weight balance and feel considering the many different styles and sizes of knives produced. This one was hard to put down at the St. Louis show. It felt great in the hand. Don definitely understands what balance and feel mean in his wide range of fixed blades. A skill that can be hard to get hold of (no pun intended ;)).

This one rocked! Those that voted for ivory handle material and damascus fittings would have enjoyed this one up close and personal. Thanks for posting it, Don.

Super nice, Don. Makes me want to put my other projects aside and
try my hand at some of the W-2 I bought from Tracey:D
