helo everyone:)

i have tryed searching the web but i can not find ennything info so i try here:)

have ennyone ever made a knife out of the cutting blade on a tractor shovel ect.
the piece i have is around 70" long 8" wide and 1" thick
does some one know what kind of steel is commonly used for it? it should be a very tough steel i think
will it be good for a big chopping knife?

i have test forged a 1/2" thick khukuri like thing out of some of it to test it, it was extreme hard to forge:eek: as a test, i chopped through a 1/4" bolt without a mark to the edge:D
but first i chopped down a ca. 8" tree with it very easy.

so what does you guys think, should i use it in some knives?
Thanks:)

I would guess that it is probably 1080 or something similar. That is a very common steel used in such implements as plowshares, digger points and disk blades. It is inexpensive steel and has good wear resistance while being tough.

Make sure you anneal the stuff before trying to work it.
