Hey Guys..

Ok...

Go grab your fire kits,, open them up and dump the contents in the trash...

You won't be needing them any more..

Heres the future of fire making..
The only tool,, you'll need...

One bright flashlight

Now isn't that Frigging wild..

I want one!!

Hey aarya...

I'm not sure where you'd get it..
Best place to ask is candlepower forums..

They would know for sure..

As for it draining batteries...

Ohh Hell Ya...

That's what is known as an HID (High Intensity Discharge)

Life span on batteries with that baby as well as the bulb isn't very long.

I don't know why  but it reminded me of the scene from Blade (movie) - the one with UV flashlight in the vampires' library.

Wouldn't want to have it accidentally turn on in your front jeans pocket.... ;)

The last thing I want my life to depend on, is a battery powered device.

Now, if they want to make it "drain proof" they need it to be a wind-up spring, when released rotates a coil, which provides enough power for that kind of capacitive discharge. But, then, you still have the failure points associated with those kind of gizmos.

I'll give it an A+ for good old ingenuity. C- for dependancy on batteries.

Suggesting we toss our firemaking kits overboard is a bit presumptious.

Hey Guys...

Skunk..

You didn't think I was serious did you ?? :)

I couldn't afford to keep that thing in batterys...

High Discharge of batts is more like it...

You'll have to pry my firekit out of my charred dead fingers...

dang...that's purty cool lookin'

Coulda lit up some deer with somethin' like that in my mis-spent youth.:D

Heya Normark, If my wife can make it downstairs today on her messed up leg, I'll have her Paypal ya' for those sheathes. Otherwise I'm gonna need a mailing addy for a MO. (Not sure if my emails have gotten through)

Neat post, and I want one!

I have little use for it as a firestarter except as a curiousity but I have to admit to wondering how well it works in the flashlight role and how long the batteries actually last. :D I mean is it like a mini search light? Inquiring minds, you know.

That looks like "the Torch" as discussed on candlepowerforums. IIRC, it spits out 4400 lumens (yes, as in 44 Surefire L4's) but the batteries only last 8 minutes. It's a "hey, check out what a modded mag can do" light, not a practical use light.

If I remember my misspent youth correctly, that thing looks like a house fire waiting to happen, in a house with boys (father included).

I`m thinking that the people should spend their time using their nightvision, instead of burning their retinas with that gizmo.
And as RokJok points out, i wouldn`t want to accidentaly turn it on while having it in the front pocket of my jeans either... Ouchie!!
Try explaining that to the doctor..
"You see doctor, i just turned on my modded flashlight and burnt my private parts."

Being a guy, the moment I saw that light I said to myself, "Oh I have got to get me one of them!"

So where do i get such a thing?

I worked years ago on a battlefield MHD generator to fire a laser weapon. Look that one up!

And I thought the Surefire M6 (?) was bright (SWAT applications light). At least with its high intensity bulb you get a 20 minute burn time. Of course it uses either 6 or 8 lithium batteries at a whack
