forging a knife

I have forged a blade out of a 3/8 allen. when I heat treated it. it cracked several places. please don't yell at me .I am teaching myself forging, leather work and knife making. I got disabled have to do something thanks ratt

I never thought of using Allen wrenches. That is a pretty good idea. Of course not knowing what kind of steel it is can be a problem but still good practice. You might also go to a local automobile spring shop. They have tons (literally) of scrap 5160 and some other good steel for knives lying around. Im sure the would give you a bunch of it.

Sorry to hear you are disabled. Post pics of some of your work when you can.
