Forging a Kurkah

Guys, I need to forge (attempt to forge) a Kurkah. I have an old original from the 1800's that I bought when all the excitment of the excavation of a lot of military stuff was located and put on the market.
Ok, looks to be a forging nightmare! I figure, if they can do it, then I can (try to) do it.
Does anyone know of a site showing a step by step procedure for forging one of these blades?
I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Tried to get in touch with Daniel but our lines just simply aren't crossing yet:o

The actual shaping process was described in one of Jim Hrsoulas' (sp?) books. In his case, first he made the general leaf shape of the blade, but straight. He said he forged the rear portion of the blade nearer the handle very thin, so that when he forged in the downward curve, the steel in the rear actually thickened up a bit from the compression.

That tutorial was interesting but I doubt I will ever employ any of my toes in the knife making process. Not intentionally at least.

Whoa! Don't give it away, I haven't read it yet:p Thanks guys for the tips. One thing that still have me confused is how to work the blade into that neat shape and such, considering the spine extends way out past the blade itself, maybe as much as 1/8th" + on each side. Seems you would have to hang it over the edge of the anvil while shaping the rest.
Well, no guessing here, I'll read the info you guys posted. Sure do appreciate it!

Sorry I haven't replied, Bro....:(

Khukuri House puts out a video that shows kamis working. However, it has been hard to get ahold of. I do have a video on CD...but too large for posting on the internet. Which is why I've delayed posting...a lot of info bouncing around up here...need more time to write.

:foot:

Here is a site giving you a good idea of the shapes out there in quite good detail. I was trying to forge one as well but have put it aside untill next spring. If you print this stuff out you can draw a good 1:1 scale of the shape you want to forge. Of course this does not help to tell how much steel to put up front to give it a good balance and whack ability which is what they are all about in some ways

also this might help as well
