Hey guys! I am considering having a smatchet forged from crucible steel and I wanted personal opinions on what type of steel I should request.

Whatever happens to come out of the crucible that's been stuffed with cast iron and mild steel and left to sit in a smelter for a while?

Oh so noob question huh? It's not a certain kind of metallurgical composition which makes a certain steel in crucible?

I'd go 3V.

But, my God man, if something goes wrong in the forging of Smatchet, it could destroy us all...

A good Smatchet could probably forge itself. Self forging to become the "ONE"!--(:--KV

Maybe 3V or M4. M4 would hold an edge better and be plenty tough. 3V would be tougher (resistant to chipping or breaking) and still hold an edge fairly well.

I never quite understood the smatchet design philosophy. What do you intend to do with it?

Why does the steel have to be from Crucible?

lol, at this point we don't know if he meant the generic term 'crucible' or the pm steel from the crucible company ; )

The generic steel from a crucible is what I meant and the smatchet idea was given to me by various members of this forum to pair with my modern take on a shielded warrior and it was seconded so I'm looking into it, it certainly looks to be a great fighting weapon.
