Born in the wrong century.... :D

Great pics Mark. That anvil looks like it has seen some good use. Bet it knows how to make a knife or fit a shoe on it's own by now.

This anvil was salvaged, it had been broke in half at the waist, as you can see in the pictures, a large plate has been welded on the side to repair it. This anvil was set up at the local church I attended and they allowed me to teach forging to some of the boys in the church. It was a real good starter anvil for the younger boys, but it was somewhat "soft" either due to the break or being a cast anvil. The anvil that is pictured in my sig line was my first anvil and its a 135 lb Peter Wright. It has a much harder face and spreads the steel faster. It is in storage in MO, so now I have two anvils in my current shop, a 120 Hay Budden and a 120 Peter Wright. The Hay Budden may have the hardest face of and anvil I have forged on yet. It has tremendous rebound, and with me switching to the Hoffi styled hammer, I am gettting the best results ever....
