Forging L6 bar stock

My local Metal Supermarket got some 1/2"x3/4" L6 bar stock by mistake rather than the 3/16" thick stuff they ordered. Has anyone had experience forging this into knife blades other than as a contrasting layer for damascus? Would it, with its nickel content, forge like most other high carbon tool steels?-Guy Thomas

Hey Alan, they only had two 6' bars of the stuff and didn't even have any pricing info because it wasn't what they ordered. I'm going to check back with them and see what the deal is!-Guy Thomas

Guy, get back to me on it, I would gladly pay ya for a bar of it if they intend to keep it versus sending it back... that is if it is actually L6...

Let me know...

Hey Alan, Here's the scoop on that L6. It is 1"x1/2" and they have an 8' bar and a 4' bar. It is $20.97 a foot and I haven't the faintest idea if that's a good price or not.

If that's a good price let me know and I'll get you some. I'd like some also as I'll have a propane mini-forge up and running soon and despite what it's detractors say I really like L6 for some reason.

I'm sending you an email on this also so get back with me sometime tonight or tomorrow and we'll figure out what to do.-Guy Thomas
