It has been 3 weeks since my last Becker purchase, a BK14 for my son's 12th birthday. In a moment of weakness, I purchased an Ontario RAT Model 1 from my local knife shop. I had tried to not be tempted by it's low price and amazing build quality, but alas, the devil (his name is Rich and he is a helluva guy) swayed me with an offer I couldn't refuse. $35 bucks for, what I feel, to be equivalent in build quality to my CRKT M14-04Z, is a great deal. It came hair popping scary sharp out of the box and being it is AUS8, I know it will hold an edge for a decent amount of time and can be sharpened quite easily.

For penance, I will start with 10 batonings and 15 feather sticks with my BK7.

Entertaining, but not really a Becker thread, is it? Closing this one.

Folks, just tossing in a Becker photo as an afterthought does not a Becker thread make. This one is pretty clearly about an Ontario knife. As such, it ought to go in General or maybe over in the ESEE forum. I understand totally the impulse to share another brand with the regular posters here in Becker, but we have a thread for that. It's called Off Topic (aka Snark) discussion, and it's stickied up top.

I'm guilty of a few threads that push the boundaries (Cast Iron thread, Fitness thread), but those are threads intended for broad participation across the Becker crowd. They are also relevant from the perspective of outdoor activity (the need to stay physically fit) and cooking (Ethan had the first Lodge Sportsman Grill I ever saw)--both of them topics that are near and dear to Uncle Weirdbeard. Now Ethan is a knife guy, and likes a lot of different brands/makers, but we have to draw the line somewhere, and the Off Topic discussion thread was intended from the get-go to catch most, if not all, of that "other brand" discussion. Otherwise, this subforum becomes a carbon copy of General.
