Forgive me Hogs, for I have sinned!

I sold some pretty sweet blades this week. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't buy another blade until I unloaded a certain # of them. I'd LOVE to have a NMSFNO, but I wouldn't order it until the stars aligned.

The stars aligned this past weekend. I crossed the threshold and could justify spending $300-400 on a new blade.

But then I realized my wife's X-mas gift had not materialized. :grumpy:

What did she want? Well, she WANTED a full otter mount. (No jokes about your college nickname being otter, guys. LOL) But she'd settle for a pelt. She's got a decent collection of pelts going already. (And almost killed me the time I was in VT hunting and PASSED on a bearskin. Whoops!) And her favorite animal in the world is an otter. My best price for a mount? $650. A pelt? $150. Money is tightening so the pelt would have to do.

So I contact a great taxidermist in NY just before Thanksgiving to inquire about a pelt. He had some really nice mounts too, but I couldn't afford them. But his work is AWESOME. (He's got one with an otter DIVING on a trout. It's really cool. But it's gotta be HUGE! It has to stand over 4'!)

He didn't have any pelts on hand but said he could do a search for one. I realized 2 days ago that he never contacted me - which means he never found one. :( He's always real good about getting back to you when he finds something.

There I sat at 1am this morning, pondering this cash that was coming into my hands. (Yeah, 1am - must be a small-business-owner sort of thing.)

NMSFNO? Or a full otter mount?

It's 1am, 2 days before X-mas. This won't work.

But I tried it anyhow. I emailed his shop (which is usually closed on Tues and Wed) to inquire about the $650 mount.

I just got the call back. They have it! And can overnight it to me for tomorrow!!!!!!!

What a treat. She will be SO delighted. Esp. after I told her yesterday that X-mas wasn't gonna be end-all, be-all b/c I failed in my quest for that "special" gift.

I'll get pix (with a Busse next to it) sometime later this week. But forgive me Hogs. Wife before steel.

That's pretty cool, Dennis! Congrat on finding her on something she'd like-I'd have told her 'Sorry, it's on backorder' (which may explain why I'm not married yet:foot::D )

In my short two years of marital bliss I've learned that if the wife is happy, so am I. Good work, Dennis. You'll get yours...;)

The post went weird right about this line, and I kept waiting for a punch line that never came. :D

Kudos to you, Dennis, for having your priorities straight. Family comes first.

It's always the dis-mount that gives me trouble:p

It took 7 replies, but the HOGs are finally emerging. Tony G and Skunk are going to have a field day. Hang in there, Dennis! :p

I think Tony G has mounted a Otter before!

I'm confused:confused: Your wife wants a stuffed otter? Like this? If so please elaborate, why?:confused: Whatever floats her boat, got to keep the Ms.' happy.

Heh, Dennis supplied me with one (set of) Christmas presents to myself so I'd say he's doing alright!

Yeah, Greg. Just like that.

Otter are hard to see in the wild. Their elusiveness just tickles her something fierce. (Oh dang - more joke fodder.) She's always found them fascinating and is always on the look-out. We've seen mink, beaver (again - back off! This is my wife yer talkin about. LOL), but an otter is hard to track around here.

We were at Bass Pro yesterday - the # and quality of the mounts ASTOUNDED her. Like a kid in a candy store. I wish I had a massive great-room to fill with stuffed game. She woudl enjoy it as well.

Bad news tho - The taxi-guy called me back. $275 for overnight shipping. We nixed that and went with ground. (I forgot how big otter are when I ordered it.)

WORST news - flippin Citibank called my house to authorize the charge. She's now at home CRYING that she didn't get me anything this Christmas. Literally. I've bot stuff over the last 60 days and keep handing it to her. "Jen. I needed this. Wrap it up for Christmas. Don't get me ANYTHING. I want for nothing. These are just stuff that's worn out or something. Spend your time getting gifts for the kids. There could be NOTHING under the tree and I'd be happy." So she gets a CC charge of over $700 for a present for her and she's done NOTHING for me. Bad day at my house. Grrrrr. She's burnt out right now and will kill herself trying to get me something. I gotta go home early today and head that off at the pass. A sane wife on the 25th is better than anything she'd get me.

Oh, and Mike is the reason I was able to do this in the first place. THANKS MIKE!!!!!

Really? When I was in Spencer AK Halibut fishing I saw a lot, the captain had to swerve to avoid them... LOL. The little buggers were lounging about on their backs in the channel, we must've seen a dozen. Congrats. bro., I hope she enjoys.

You've got to keep the wife happy...so you did the right thing. Unhappy wife = unhappy life!!

You have to keep the wife happy today so you can feed from the trough in the future.

Remind her how much you've spent on your knife collection and how she's not gone ballistic on you because of it, and that you've been gifted a woman that'll put up with your "disease." And since your present will be late, tell her maybe she could hook you up with a CG NMSFNO before they're pulled from the site. They're only half the cost of a stuffed and mounted otter! LOL! What a bargain!
