Forgive me Jerry, for I am about to sin!

For the first time in a long while, I have the hots for a non-Busse knife. :o

Some background: When I was a Boy Sprout (a long, long time ago), I broke the tip of my Boy Scout sheath knife by throwing it. It was a thin, carbon steel blade with leather washer handles. My dad took it to the cotton mill and reground the tip and reshaped the blade, greatly improving it over the original shape. The result was almost a classic semi-skinner profile. I loved that thing, dressed a lot of squirrel and rabbit and a few deer with it, kept it razor sharp. Sometime after I went away to my first job, it disappeared from the old homeplace. I have always regretted losing it, and have even pondered what Busse model might be suitable for reshaping to approximate it. That knife might even be why I like the thinner Busse blades.

I have discovered a knife, however, that is almost it's twin, except for the handle material. Ruana, Model 95 MP. Same size, shape, carbon steel, thin blade, cast aluminum pommel, everything. So for nostalgia's sake, I am going to have to procure one.

I promise that it won't put a permanent crimp in my Busse purchases, though.

If it's a sin to lust after other knives, I'm going straight to hell. :p

Can I show you my Beckers? :D

It's not like your immortal soul will be forever damned to purgatory if you buy this knife....and no your hand will not catch fire if it touches a knife other than a Busse.

It's a nice knife though....I saw the 95 AD with the elk antler inserts....what's the MP stand for? A different handle material?

Buck, Gerber, K-BAR, Strider, Fehrman, Chris Reeve and even a SOG. I have heard folks mention other makers and, before discovering Busse, all of us have had blades by one manufacturer or another. I could be wrong, but I have yet to hear that disposing of all non Busse Group blades is required once you get a taste for INFI, SR 101, etc. Perhaps that sacrifice is demanded only of those who would become part of Jerry's 'inner circle' of uber-HOGs. Or not. Which ones are your 'go to' blades ? The ones you would have with you should your (or someone else's) life depend on it ? My guess is Busse, SR and/or SY. I still have my others, just haven't bought any since discovering Jerry's. Pete

While I have the INFI bug real, real bad -- I still purchase other knives on occasion.

As I am with sin, I shall NOT throw the first stone!

Pics?

Like my wife says: Just cause you married the best, doesn't mean you can't still sample the rest. In the context of BBQ and knives, I enjoy that this is her philosophy, however...

It's all good. Jerry hasn't offered a WSK or Nessmuk, so I had to order from Daniel Koster. I just wish they'd do a collab.

Well I really like my new Fehrman. It will definatly see a lot of use along side my Busse, Swamp Rat, Falkniven and Bark River users.
