For the first time in a long while, I have the hots for a non-Busse knife.
Some background: When I was a Boy Sprout (a long, long time ago), I broke the tip of my Boy Scout sheath knife by throwing it. It was a thin, carbon steel blade with leather washer handles. My dad took it to the cotton mill and reground the tip and reshaped the blade, greatly improving it over the original shape. The result was almost a classic semi-skinner profile. I loved that thing, dressed a lot of squirrel and rabbit and a few deer with it, kept it razor sharp. Sometime after I went away to my first job, it disappeared from the old homeplace. I have always regretted losing it, and have even pondered what Busse model might be suitable for reshaping to approximate it. That knife might even be why I like the thinner Busse blades.
I have discovered a knife, however, that is almost it's twin, except for the handle material. Ruana, Model 95 MP. Same size, shape, carbon steel, thin blade, cast aluminum pommel, everything. So for nostalgia's sake, I am going to have to procure one.
I promise that it won't put a permanent crimp in my Busse purchases, though.
