first time i saw that WOT sword, i was quite disappointed. It's a VERY cool sword, but it just doesn't match what they describe in the book...

Yeah, I would like to see a good repro of the WOT sword. Would LOVE one of those. I would make one if I could find someone who could heat treat a full sword.

what i would really like to see is an ashandarei as described in the book

long, black-hafted spear with a foot-long "sword blade in place of a spear point, slightly curved and single-edged".[3] The blade is adorned with two ravens, and the shaft has an inscription, written in the Old Tongue, in which Mat is now completely fluent. The inscription, translated, reads:
Mat bearing his ashandarei
“Thus is our treaty written; thus is agreement made.
Thought is the arrow of time; memory never fades.
What was asked is given. The price is paid.”

this is the best image i've seen of it so far

as for the heron mark blade, i much prefer the rendering below... i think the large gold furniture detracts from the clean lines of the sword. I also think the approved model would be much improved with a Bo Hi and Kissaki.

It wouldn't have a hamon as it was made with "The One Power"

the production one is clearly NOT rand al thors blade. That had one heron on the grip, one heron on the blade, and one heron on the scabbard.

I was really into the books when I was younger and hauled hay and tobacco for a summer to pay for it. Was a big disappointment when I finally got it. The lines are alright but it is light and feels flimsy, does look good on the wall though. LOL

i'd imagine it is very much LIKE a naginata, but i like to imagine that it was it's own category.

of course, if you made a naginata like blade out of INFI steel from the busse custom shop, i think that's the closest you'll get in our world to a "power wrought blade"

I'd personally prefer something in L6 from Howard Clark. It wouldn't have to be a half inch thick and could have a hamon.

i think, in this case, a hamon would be out of place. A hamon is the result of the forging process.... Power wrought blades (in the WOT universe) are not made with the kind of process that yields a hamon.

That said, they are also said to be immune to damage over time (rust, discoloration etc) and hold an edge forever

Seems like a description of a sort of super-infi to me ;)

a hamon is NOT the result of the forging process, but rather the heat treating.

There's an interesting philosophical question... does heat treating with "the One Power" produce DH or TH blades ;)
