Well the Dirk is almost finished. I'm stabalizing the wood now so I need to attend to other things while it soaks. I'm going to make a traditional set complete with knife and fork. I guess they are so I can have lunch after killing off the wicked English invaders.

I have never forged a fork. I can think of several ways to start but thought perhaps one of the inhouse masters could point me in the right direction. Any help would make me forever grateful!

Peter, Im no help. Ive never forged a fork either. Im surprised there are not many knife and fork sets anymore.

Most of these I have seen were two tine only forks. The easiest way to forge a fork is to split a piece of round or flat stock (which ever you want ,I think theres were round)First on a small round bar heat it and hit it on the end straight down onto the anvil face this will disrupt the rod and thicken the end, kind of like peening pins. Now split it and upen iy up by heating it and spreading it openNow heat your tines carefully and hamer them round to a point,Now heat the whole fork end and bend it over a round bar the size you need to space the tines apart. Now clean it up and give it a quick heat treat just like you do a knife. And now you shoud be ready to go..
Hope this helps,
Bruce

i have made 3 tine forks by stock removal from ats34 and 440c. i have bought the blanks www.jantz.com that are ready for scales.
its fun to make them from bar stock.
