I have a question regarding Forum Decorum. Why is it standard procedure for people to remove the asking price from a exchange post when selling a knife? I think everyone in the Busse family wants to sell and or buy at a fair price but It can be tough determining a fair price. Is there a Exchange rule about removing the asking price or is this just a tradition?

Tradition, as far as I can tell.

Not that I’m aware of. I usually leave my prices, sometimes I remove them, and I have seen others do the same. I think most do so just because everyone wants to get the most they can for an item.

So I normally just price items high and if it doesn’t sell, I start lowering the price until it does. It’s as simple as that. Or include an OBO in your post meaning you’re willing to accept offers.

Thanks

There is no rule on this forum but I wish there was personally. I only remove the asking price if the buyer requests me to or I will strike the price if I agree to a lower offer.

I scrub all prices of sold goods out of respect for the buyer. . I've learned that it's just easier, in the long run, if I do so. It's not difficult to come up with market prices when selling, especially during this crappy market.

This actually goes way back about 17-18 years or so when there was a profiteer, who has since been banned, who would contact buyers and sellers if he missed a knife he wanted and try to undermine the deal, harass the buyer into selling it to him, or harass the seller into changing the deal and selling it to him instead. You may see this person referred to by some as "he who shall not be named" and you may also know him from eBay.

This is also why many older (longer tenure) forumite's may prefer not to post an "I'll take it" in a sale thread, a habit that got started at the same time to maintain confidentiality.

I used to leave the prices up until about the last year or so. Quite often for me, the sales price that I listed was not what it sold for. I don't feel the need to advertise that price as that was was what the buyer and I decided on which was less than my asking price.
This is a fun hobby to participate in. I've been on both sides of the fence as far as keeping the list price up and also taking it down. Personally, as others have commented, the market is slower and the prices aren't quite what they used to be. I generally tend to sell it for what I purchased it for.

Added to the list!! Thanks!

Removing the asking price is a waste of time. Simply subscribe to the Busse / Swamprat / Scrapyard Knives For Sale forum using the email option and every post with the original asking price is emailed to you. I am a moderator on Microholics.org. The rules there require you to leave the final asking price to help establish a historical value record. Helps prevent newbies from getting screwed, a good thing IMO.

I just trying to avoid selling Busse Knives All together lol but when I did sell a few, I never erased the price. But I can see both sides of the argument. I vote for leaving the price.
