I believe there are enough passarounds it would be advantageous for passarounds to have their own forums which would make it easier to find.

It would also make it easier for those NOT participating because then they don't have to look at all the signups and what not.

If you agree or disagree please check in to this thread in the support forum:

I hope that if you have or are a passaround participant you consider expressing your opinion one way or the other. I think it would be another step in moving the passaround concept forward.

Thanks,

I have to agree. I would very much like to see a forum for passarounds. I'm sure many of you have benefited in some way from the passarounds. I know I have.

I can't remember how I felt last time this came up, but this Time around I'm for it.

I think the issues last time were,

Limited space on the server

Too many dead Forums already

Not enough traffic to warrant a seperate forum

After having been trough a few of these, the thing I've found most frustrating is finding the link to reply to. A substanial amount of time can elapes between receipients of the knife, and an even longer time between reviews, I wind up losing or forgetting about the original post.

Why have a forum just for pass arounds? Response to first reason above: They are not hard to find for me. Response to second reason above: If I'm not interested in a pass around, I just don't click on the thread. My connection is high speed, if I was dial-up, I might feel differently.

Personally, pass arounds are "reviews and testing" and should be in that forum.

Why not just put the passarounds in the
knife review and testing forums? That way
you might get more reviews and the posts
won't disappear as quickly as they do in
general.

We could certainly put them in the reviews forum, in fact that's where they where supposed to go. But not everyone put their reviews there. Would the signups go there too?

Actually for me it is rather difficult to keep track of who had it last and how long has it been * every passaround. You end up doing n searches and looking for the last post.

We need a separate forum. There are several going on at once and it would be easier to keep track of as well as find new sign ups. Is it a form of review and testing?? Sure, but 99% of non passaround reviews there are one person stating there opinion, which I value, but we are talking about 10 people, all handling the same knife. Plus many of you may not take into consideration how hard it is for someone like DaveH who organizes these passarounds and may have 5 or more going at once. A forum dedicated just to passarounds is very beneficial. We have a new server now with no real problems to speak of. We also have forums here that get little or NO activity. So I see no reason why a passaround forum can't be done.

may have 5 or more going

Yeah I Agree! ;)

Currently we have ongoing:

Temperence fixed blade.
Rescue
Impala
Cricket & mystery knife
Spyderco Kitchen & Cricket
Spyderco Book

Geeze I forgot

SPYDERHAWK too!

I'll also this question that maybe someone can answer, Why do we keep forums that generate no traffic?

I wonder that frequently myself.

I do think there should be a separate passaround forum. Signups are posted here, and in the mfgrs forums, then sometimes people post the reviews there, or here..or in the reviews section. It's messy and discombobulated.

OK here's what I can remeber that I have either done or had a hand in. The number in parens is how many separate passarounds the knife had.

My Personal Knives
===================
Salsa (3)
Lum Chinese (3)
Navigator (1)
Stainless cricket & Mystery knife (1)
Sebenza (1)
Camillus EDC (1)
Grohman survival (1)
Centofante (1)

Spyderco Supplied Knives
==========================
Temperance fixed blade (3)
Rescue - (2)
Impala - (2)
Spyderhawk - (1)
2 kitchen knives & stainless cricket (1)

Other
=====
Shrike - Newgraham knives - (1)
Spyderco story - NGK webmaster (1)

So I get a total of 23 passarounds.

Yes. Either a seperate forum, or make sure everyone posts their review in the Review forum. They are hard to keep track of.

If a separate forum is used for Passarounds, maybe each passaround can be a sticky during the time it is a live passaround.

Sticky while active, that could be, though if it;s in it's own forum, there would be less competition from outside threads so they wouldn't disapear as quickly.

I liked the passarounds ! I also would like to see a forum for this purpose! I always lose track of the passarounds. This would be a great help! There are forums that get little use. Good Idea Dave :)

In addition to Dave's passarounds, I have had a few myself and they can be hard to keep track of. My sig makes a temporary solution, but I feel a passaround forum would help tremendously!

Bump! If you support the idea of a passaround forum, please post in Service and Support (here) and say so! We need as many people as we can get!

OK, a BTT with some comments, if you think we need a separate passaround forums let spark know here:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=256454

The next passaround I'll post the signup in the testing and review forum, so look there, especially early to mid next week. (That's a hint)

I generally don't email people to let them know there's a passaround, so if you're ineterested in participating check the testing and review forum every so often.

(For now at least unless passarounds gets it's own forum)

Thanks,
