I belong to a guitar forum and just have to have the next guitar...

I belong to a shooting forum and always have to get the next gun...

Now these damn traditional knives, I didnt even know existed... I GOTTA HAVE EM!

I came here to find info on knife making, supplies and ideas and such. Guess that didnt work out too well for me. I think I have a problem.

Don't worry, you're under the watchful eye of Arf, The Wonder Chicken. (He knows what to do).

Once you go "down the rabbit hole" of traditional knives there is no going back. It'll start with Rough Riders, you!ll then get into Case and all sorts of SAKs ( you'll detour into Alox models in various colors for awhile), then you!ll discover GEC and Queen, maybe some Canal Street, AG Russell, among others. Next it' ll be oldies of all kinds from makers that are no longer around ( Shrade USA Old Timers, Imperial, Keen Kutters, Ulster, Camillus and many others). Ooops, almost forgot, you'll also end up with several Opinels! Finally, you' ll arrive at Customs such as Dunlap, TA Davison, John Lloyd, Ken Coats and many other incredible makers. Forget about relationships with your significant other, family, friends, your job, etc.
Hang on to your wallet, increase your credit limit on credit cards, get a PayPal account, take out a second mortgage and get a second job since you will need to fund your acquisitions and it will never end.

Good luck!:D

Haha... it's already too late.
1) Pick up a few rough riders in different patterns, sizes and handle materials to see what you like and don't like.
2) find a comparable GEC, Queen, and a Schatt & Morgan and pick up one each to try those out and see which level of F&F (fit and finish) you prefer and price range you are comfortable with.
C) send me all but the knife you decide on.

Might I suggest a sowbelly, a backpocket, and a saddlehorn for dedicated users (the handle shape works well for me). Also, grab a GEC Sodbuster.

Welcome to the porch. 👍

The 1st world problem of consumerism is addictive. I went through the same; guns, bows, knives, back to guns, back to knives, and then back to guns once more.

That voice of, "I need that!" or, "just a few more." is the sickness. A tempting little beast that grows stronger with each appeasement or justification to it given. Yet, the Grail was always on the horizon.

I'm finally content, but I do appreciate the hobby of those I let pass by and the knowledge and friendships found here.

Good luck with the sickness.

There is only one chance of a cure...log off and never come back. Otherwise, welcome to the porch! A place full of great knives and even better people.

Fortunately, I haven't yet been afflicted too much with the advanced symptoms, but you sure hit the nail on the head for me with the ones I highlighted! And I don't think we've ever met, billsch8!:rolleyes: ;) Oh, and you forgot two other important "side trips": knives from around the world and gifts from BF members!

I've read lots of advice very similar to NJBillK's, but I seem to do it backwards: I look at all the marvelous GECs, Queens, Cases, etc. to see what moves me, then I go look for the Rough Rider or Colt (RIP) or Marbles that comes closest and buy that!! :D Keeps me fat and happy!

Welcome! Don't worry about what you have passed over, just worry about what to get next:)

Welcome. Look at it this way? Most knives are cheaper than most decent guitars? I know I have several of each;)

The reward center of your brain is looking for an outlet, and the internet basically turns your keyboard into the morphine drip button from a hospital bed ;)

Handy thing that pocket knives are actually, well... handy.

Be thankful - at least we don't have to buy amps or ammo for our knives.:D

Don't forget "jeepers". Just don't drop the J bomb too early lol.

Prior, about once a year, I would have a flash sale on nearly all of my collection. I must be doing something right, cause I went to try to thin mine today and only came up with 2 of my 4 non traditional knives to get off of. I couldn't get rid of any of my traditionals lol. There is a ranch boss that may eventually go to a new home, but I like it for its size. Maybe I should get a QC 49 first?

Crap, I've started thinking about gear aquisition in a thread cussing it.

Well, jeepers.
