Well we all know what a great place this is and it was brought home again this week with a very generous gift to my wife, Donna, from Paul Hilborn. Donna and I had a tremendous time at this years GEC Rendezvous and one of the highlights was getting to meet Paul and Duncan.
We all had a great time and took away many great memories from what we feel was the best Rendezvous yet and that is due to the many fine people that were there.
The last night at the Cross Creek bar Charlie brought out a roll of knives and several knives changed hands including a modified Scagel that Paul generously gave me that night. A couple weeks ago Paul asked for my address which you know means something is up, Friday a box showed up in the mailbox from Paul and inside was the other modified Scagel that Charlie had that night. Also in the box was a very nice letter stating the knife was a gift to my wife Donna.
Paul, you can't believe how surprised and pleased she was to receive such a gift, it is much appreciated buddy!
The knives themselves are pretty special, they started out as a 2 blade Scagel that Charlie sent to former Forum member, Oupa, to be modified into 2 single blade knives. I think Oupa is from Australia if a remember right.
Anyways Paul, Donna and I can't thank you enough and we really hope we can get together again in the future.

Absolutely brilliant! :) Well done, once again, Paul, you are a real star my friend :) Nice post Augie, those are lovely knives, and really special to have as a pair

Wonderfully done! Not surprising though. Good on ya Paul. Congratulations to your wife, Augie.
Thanks, Neal

Nice going Paul! Gongratulations Donna on the well deserved gift, and to John for sharing this with us.

The feeling of family here is beyond reproach. Whenever you feel down you can usually find something to feel good about on the porch. Congrats on the great gifts Augie. I'm sure you and your better half will enjoy them for many years. And Paul, you are a class act buddy.

Way to go Paul! Not at all a surprise to us that know your generosity firsthand! John give our congratulations to Donna. Those two Scagels just like you guys are a special pair! We agree that this was a great Rendezvous! We're already looking forward to next year! :D

These kind of stories are a big part of why I love this place. Those are really neat knives.

Why am I not surprised at all . What a very generous thing to do by a very generous and nice guy for a very nice young lady . Way to go Paul and Augie please give my Congrats to Donna !!!!!

Thanks all. John there is symbolism for you and Donna to each have half of what was at one time a single two blade knife. You two are so great together and a pleasure to be around and spend quality time with. It was meant to be that these unique knives belong to you and Donna.

After we left our get together that night it dawned on me what should have been obvious from the start. After getting back from the rendezvous I contacted Charlie, aka LEGEND to all. Charlie immediately agreed and sent that knife to me and then in turn it went on to Donna. Now all is well in the Scagel universe that the knife is one again:D

Thanks so much to you and Donna for your kindness:thumbsup:

I thought this was yet another cool example of Paul's legendary generosity :cool::thumbsup:, but after just reading Paul's explanation of the "deeper meaning", I'm stunned by the sheer romanticism of the gesture!!!:thumbsup::cool::cool:

A relatively clueless guy like me can learn so much from the people on The Porch!!!:thumbsup::)

Nice pair of gifts, Paul!! The knife with the arrowhead shield has some interesting handles. The wood came from William Scagel's old workbench!! I have forgotten how it came to be in Oupa's hands, but I thought it was a cool union of a tribute knife, and a related relic!
Hi Donna and John!! It was great to see you both again!

That has to be one of the most thoughtful giftings I have had the pleasure to read about. Bravo, Paul

Couldn't have said it any better than Jamie just did......so why try?
Great photos John! You and Donna are both Great people and even better together, just like the pair you hold in your hands.

I believe there was a thread on this conversion in Ouppa's subforum on Knifeforums. He's a true "folk artist". His work is insantly recognizable.
