Just recently, in a thread about how much pull was really needed, our own JD Bear made a post about how his Buck 301 had such little snap on the blades, sheep foot blade in particular, that he never carried or used it. As a longtime fan of the stockman, and the Buck 301 in particular, I let him know that he could pass it off to me with no hard feelings at all!
Well, in the spirit of this forum, he did just that. Yesterday, I took delivery of a very nice 301, and yes, the blades are a little lazy, but for this arthritic senior citizen, that makes me very happy. I spent a third of my life carrying a 301 as my main pocket knife before I knew I was a knife nut. That Buck stockman went all over the world with me on four different continents, and did great service as a bird and trout knife, camping knife, not to mention whatever dirty 'hard use' as it's called now came up. It got retired when I started my knife nut trip, and wandered off to try all kinds of those 'other' knives. Those others didn't last long. The stockman and SAK are the two patterns I kept coming back to, and now I've come a full circle of the life's wheel. A 301 Buck is back in my pocket. It feels very weird in a flashback way, yet strangely familiar when I slide a hand into the pocket and feel a very familiar outline. It, and the old Ruger I bought way back for 39.95 after high school make a good pair for exploring the Texas countryside.
Jared, I actually don't have words to express how much thanks I feel. For a long winded old fart like me, that's remarkable in itself. A coin is on it's way to you.
