Just recently, in a thread about how much pull was really needed, our own JD Bear made a post about how his Buck 301 had such little snap on the blades, sheep foot blade in particular, that he never carried or used it. As a longtime fan of the stockman, and the Buck 301 in particular, I let him know that he could pass it off to me with no hard feelings at all!:)

Well, in the spirit of this forum, he did just that. Yesterday, I took delivery of a very nice 301, and yes, the blades are a little lazy, but for this arthritic senior citizen, that makes me very happy. I spent a third of my life carrying a 301 as my main pocket knife before I knew I was a knife nut. That Buck stockman went all over the world with me on four different continents, and did great service as a bird and trout knife, camping knife, not to mention whatever dirty 'hard use' as it's called now came up. It got retired when I started my knife nut trip, and wandered off to try all kinds of those 'other' knives. Those others didn't last long. The stockman and SAK are the two patterns I kept coming back to, and now I've come a full circle of the life's wheel. A 301 Buck is back in my pocket. It feels very weird in a flashback way, yet strangely familiar when I slide a hand into the pocket and feel a very familiar outline. It, and the old Ruger I bought way back for 39.95 after high school make a good pair for exploring the Texas countryside.

Jared, I actually don't have words to express how much thanks I feel. For a long winded old fart like me, that's remarkable in itself. A coin is on it's way to you.

Comgrats on receiving great knife, and a Salute to JD for his generosity.

I hope you carry this 301 for at least as long as your first. :)

Nice, Carl! Nice story, nice Knife, and nice photo! Love those old Rugers...Standard?

I'm glad you like it Carl  It looks great riding along side the Ruger. Since I've never gotten the chance to go to Texas, I'm glad one of my Bucks did. Enjoy my friend....

Nice work JD, looking after one of Traditionals great ones! Nice to read first thing in the morning for me!

Wow! Never ceases to amaze me how this Porch takes care of it's own. Nice gesture JD and a great post Jack.

Yes, old standard model predating any MK series. A half century of service now, and still shoots better than it's owner!

Great gesture JD! This forum is a never ending fount of goodwill and generosity . Carl, when you get some experience with your new Buck, I'd be interested to learn how the new Saber grind compares with your experiences with the older flat grind.
