Is it just my computer :( or does anyone else miss the "Forum Jump" feature?

It's saving money or bandwidth or something. I hate not having them, but I suppose it's saving me time: I have cut the amount of time I spend here at least in half because it's such a pain in the keester to navigate. Stopped visiting about five of the forums so far and am considering ignoring even more. What a shame.

It's neither saving money nor saving bandwidth. Spark says that the Forum Jump taxes a lot of system resources and had been giving the server hell lately. He shut the feature off in an attempt to ease the system load a bit.

I'm doing my share to ease the system!! Without the jump feature, I'm using the Forums much less (sigh)

Spark says taking this away cuts down on the server's workload. I don't understand it, but I trust that Spark does. He works with this stuff every day.

What I do know is this: it is possible for you to bookmark the individual forums that you like to visit and just go directly to them with your own browser. This will give you the same "direct access" benefit and it will actually be faster than the old pulldown menu was.

My suggestion: stop complaining and start bookmarking.

Once I decided this wasn't the worst thing that's ever happened in my life, I realized my biggest problem with it is that I keep going to the bottom automatically before I remember it isn't there anymore ... making me feel like an idiot. So, that's nothing new.

Bookmarking forums is a good idea. What I've been doing for a while now anyway is bookmarking threads I participate in, and I tend to get a lot of e-mails notifying me the thread's got a new post to go read. Then a quick run up to the blade discussion forum to bookmark any good new threads, and I've got my fix for the day.

As you can see, I manage to spend a bit of time here, diffculties notwithstanding :D

There's navigation at the top of every screen that will take you between each forum category. You have the ability to subscribe to forums you frequent by clicking the link at the bottom of each forum page. You can access these subscribed forums by clicking on the "user cp" button at the top of the screen.

All of these features are free to use and very fast - actually much faster than using the forum jump.

Past that, excuse me for taking steps to continue to make the forums accessable for everyone else. I'm sorry that I had to inconvenience you by disable a server CPU intensive feature to continue to provide access for everyone else.

I never used the darn thing anyway, so I didn't even notice when it was removed. It is a feature I can certainly live without.
