Hi there everyone.
Can I begin this by saying that I think the people here that contribute in this forum are ...just simply great people, who obviously are here to SHARE their passion, and knowledge...can I tell you what has happened to me, it has left me very thankfull, and has already changed my perspective of collecting...

A while ago Roland put a knife up-and I passed a comment that I liked it...well, the next thing I had the knife on my desk top..now I am in New Zealand here folks, and most peoiple wouldnt SELL their knife because of the hassle-let alone GIVE ONE AWAY!!...I had a lot of trouble accepting this, but boy can I tell you that Roland always has a place to stay if he ever graces our shores...so this got me thinking......

Quite some time ago...I put up in Bernard's forum a old sheath...now I very much liked that ol' girl...there were a few comments-some were a bit coarse-some were great...the old sheath just looked as though it had been through a lot-and I like that...here is the link...

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=653502

As you see ed Fowlers comments...he and I shared a few words in pm's about the sheath, well after recieving Rolands knife, it blew me away of his generosity-that is NOT uncommon here in this forum,....so I wrote to Ed, and told him I would be realy gratefull if he would let me send the sheath to him, as he very much liked it...he said in almost exact words" he would very much like to get to know that old sheath"... so not long after, he recieved it :)

But THIS...AGAIN has taken me a-back quite a bit, I came home yesterday, and I had this big box waiting for me..., I thought...ok, my budgets not good, I havent bought any Bowies lately...but it was from Ed..

Now probably much like you, I think Ed Fowler is a real ....gentleman, pioneer in a way, and just a great human being with his respect of others-and other life..I could go on..
This box contained Eds book, signed, and two dvd's of his...I just dont know what to say-only this....I will continue to give when I can, not to benifit returns, but because of the fantastic feeling it gives- when you give....
So in the end Roland...thank you, Ed...thank you, and other most helpfull forum members-thank you....there of us who learn a great deal from this forum, mods, and members...
Very gratefull.
Duncan

Great post & yes, the generosity of many in this section of BFs is amazing (Time, answers, knives, etc).

I know the feeling you are having and can appretiate them very much. I am also grateful to have found this place and it is surely becoming a part of who I am as you can very well understand. Great post, enjoy your journey.

Very nice. :)
Giving to others without an expectation of anything in return is the hallmark of a good character and is seen often around here.

Duncan, You are experiencing what makes this forum so special on the internet;

The people.

I'm fairly new to the whole computer thing, only learning about browsing the 'net when I retired. Now I rarely go to any other forums, because of the ego's, pettyness, and arguments over the most stupid things.

Here you have real people, with real friendship, to the degree that if I got the chance to meet any of them, I'd not hesitate to share my fire or whiskey with. I don't say that lightly, as I'm a very private person.

This is a great place, and I doubt you will find another like it anywhere.

Carl.

This forum is what it is because of the people who participate. Just an awesome group.

I have known Ed for a while and since the beginning will read anything he puts down on paper or monitor. There is much wisdom there and to this day I still learn about knives and life from him.

Thanks for sharing that with us Duncan:thumbup:
That was VERY kind of Roland, and Ed.
