Forum knife reissued

If you could have just one of the previous forum knives remade, which one would it be and why?

It would be knice if that were true wouldn’t it? I’m sure there are many of you folks rockin’ out on the porch who’ve only recently found our little niche in the community.

As such only recently discovered the joy of being part of the official Traditional Forum’s annual knife process.

This means you’ve most likely missed out on a majority of the early/rarer knives we’ve had produced in the last 12 years.

I can’t count how many times I’ve heard or read someone who said they wish that this year’s or that pattern forum knife were reissued.

I personally would love to see a reissue/sprint run of the Queen/Schatt Morgan/BFC Barlow. One of my favorite and most memorable of Forum knives commissioned.

So just for grins and giggles, if you could have any one of the last twelve forum knives reissued as a sprint run, which model/pattern would you like to see made and if you wouldn’t mind, a brief reason for why.

In case you aren’t aware of all the knives we’ve conspired to have made here’s a brief timeline.

I would love to have a ring turner! I guess it just looks like a fun and cool little knife.

The two that drew me in the most would have to be the 2011 Teardrop and the 2008 Medium Stockman.. but I think I’d have to go with the 2011. It’s just gorgeous. Plus I really never see any GEC Teardrops our in the wild, so it’d definitely be a keeper.

Im a stockman man, especially square end ones, through and through

That's a toss up for me
2009
because mine was just a terrible example, or
2012
I traded mine (got ripped off, but that's beside the point) and I wish I had kept it.

Didn't see anything past 2011 in the poll; picked one from the choices (2008). Otherwise, may have picked 2012 or 2014. Not a one I wouldn't want, though.

I’d go for the Barlow, between the donated stag, all the arguing and the problems that arose because of that year’s knife, that one means the most to me.

That was one of the hardest knives we ever had made. That was almost the last forum knife and I think a lot more people wanted it after they saw how gorgeous it came out.

Either way all the forum knives are winners in my book. I’ve carried and used every one and enjoyed the process the most of all.

Today I have the 2015 Canal Street Cutlery Serpentine Shadow Jack with the Birdseye pivots and the beautiful Bocote scales.

Admirable collection Ted :) I have to agree with Buzzbait Buzzbait , but thanks to @Campbellclanman I have a 2011 ;) :)

I haven't handled one, but in many ways I think the Ring-Opener is precisely what the Traditional Forum Knife should be, very traditional, unusual (at least in the US), and a pattern which nobody currently seems to make  The 2010 looks interesting too, and the 2013 was a nice knife - just not at the price charged for it  Before my time here, but what on earth were you guys thinking of putting a Wharncliffe blade on a Barlow?! The only example of the 2012 I've handled had terrible cant, and again, that Wharncliffe blade - Don't tell me that blade is "pretty" Christian @kamagong! o_O :p - I'd have to take it off! In recent years, I've liked the 2014 Stag Jack most of all, and apart from this year's (which I ordered to thank @skblades rather than because I like the knife) is the only one I've actually bought. The ever-generous Duncan kindly gifted me a Drover, and though GEC made another pig's ear of it, I have to say it has grown on me as a knife, and like the 2014, I should carry it more. No, keep them as they are I say, unique and special knives, even if some of them are only special to those, like your good self, who steadfastly collect them

How many of you folks who got the 2011 Swellbottom Bottle Jack had to modify their openers and how many just modified the way they used the opener?

I know if you used it sideways you could open a beer with a little effort or if you took a Dremel to the hook of the opener you could get it to grab the cap the proper way and open the bottle. I modified my opener, it was easier than tryin’ to teach an old dog a new trick. Lol ;)

I modified mine with a needle-nose file Ted. Kind of wish I hadn't in retrospect (out of sentimental reasons), but it works as it should do now. Did GEC not think of testing one first?!

I'd go with 2007 or 2009 because, sadly, neither of those companies are with us any longer...

Yes, in retrospect, that's the only reason I very slightly regret not buying the 2015

I forget which year it was (probably 2013), but I remember going onto Barry's site to order the forum knife, and realising that there were actually a lot of other GEC knives I liked considerably more, at significantly lower prices

It didn’t take much adjustment, just a little tweaking.

Voted for the 2006 because I don't have a Ring Turner but would like one.

That was the smallest run, a little over 30 made I rarely see them listed for sale on the secondary market.

I reground my opener on the one I kept. I'd buy another Barlow if it was made by someone who knew how to grind a blade. I had to regrind mine to make knife blades out of the bar stock it came with (I hate thick edges). The Congress Jack has seen the most actual use out of all my Forum knives, and it is the only one I kept the second one I bought. Most of them I've bought just to have a complete set, most of them held little to no appeal for me.

I would say the 2009 barlow. For me, that was a personal knife. It was the year I had my bypass, and I almost missed the ordering process while in my recovery. I make it a point to get the forum knife every year, and like you Ted, I have them all. That would have been a huge disappointment if I had missed it. That one was also a great knife, and I would have surely got a second one had I know how awesome they would turn out.
