Once in a while I see bladeforums forum knife show up here and there, and I know almost nothing about it.

What did they cost when they came, and how many are out there?

Im so new you got me also.It will not take long and the guys on this forum will give you all the info you need, you can count on it!

During the spring the discussions will begin for the 2013 forum knife, if there is going to be one. There will be threads to discuss what style knife it will be and other specifications. Then the search for a manufacturer will begin. The last two forum knives have been built by GEC. So, just keep an eye on the forum here and you will be able to participate in the process and when the time comes place an order for the knife.

The specifics vary by year. Last year 250 were ordered. I believe that to be the largest order ever made (IIRC about double the number ordered in any other year). They were priced at $115 apiece.

Last year the ordering, tracking, money collection, and shipping were handled by Spark. In prior years it was all volunteer labor, so the price was less.

I believe Spark ordered 500 of the 2012 traditional BF knife but 250 was the threshold to see if it was viable as I recall. When you do a knife like this, you pay for all the design or tooling work versus the manufacturer covering that cost or spreading it out over a lot more product units.

I might be wrong on this but I remember the order being for 250.

It seemed to appear as a regular GEC pattern very soon after though.

I looked up Spark's post about how many he was ordering before I posted the number. I wasn't guessing or remembering.

I am going from memory, I so indicate.
"Spark ordered 250". Fact.
"IIRC about double the number ordered in any other year" Memory.

IIRC = If I Remember Correctly.

Remember, I write specifications for a living. To me, precision is important.
