Forumites,

I'm from Northwest Indiana and am currently trying to find a good place to check out current production knives from Benchmade, Microtech, CRKT, Kershaw, Camillus. as well as custom work. Ive attended the various gun shows in Crown Point, Valparaiso, and even Indianapolis on occasion. The only Brick & Mortar stores close to me have a very limited selection of bad chinese & taiwan made mall ninja knives. If anyone can point me in the direction of a knife show in the area or a reputable storefront that sells knives please let me know.

Thanks.

James M.

P.S. if this post is in the wrong forum, please advise.

There was a B&M in mishawaka I thought, Fred is the owners name, Knife outlet maybe? Ok, foudn it, postal address is lakeville:

Postal Mail: Knife Outlet
66400 Oak Road
Lakeville, IN 46536

DaveH,

Just called that number and was told that the storefront is actually called "The Good Gourmet" and they only sell their kitchen cutlery through the store. all other knives are sold exclusively through their website.

Thanks for the info though.

Moving to Blade Discussion Forum. :)

Hey,

I grew up in Michigan City. There was a Remington outlet at Lighthouse Place that sold some Benchmades and Spydercos along with CRKT etc....I think they closed. Not sure. Another place to check out is Fetla's in Valparaso. They sell quite a bit along with other outdoor stuff..guns, bows, camping, clothes, camping etc. I know they are still there. I live in Westfield now which is close to Indianapolis. I actually don't know of too many stores around here except for Gander Mountain. They don't have a lot and there prices are a little higher. I know there is a knife store in Washington Square mall (Indianapolis). They sell everything there. Customs, CRK's, you name it. But very pricey. Hope this helps. By the way, where are you from?

Mike

I don't know about NW Indiana, but in Indianapolis about the only two places I've found that carry Benchmade knives, no Microtech, are Gander Mountain and Pop Guns. Let me know if you do find a specialty knife store as I too would like a place to go and handle some of the knives I see here on the forum and read about.

RH,

There was a place at one time in Washington Square Mall that had everything.
Let me do some checking.......

Yep, it's called the Whittlers Bench. ph. 317-899-5113

They are still there. That's the best place I know of.

I just Mapquested Whittlers Bench. thanks for the info.

Ive been to Fetlas which has recently undergone a huge remodeling. They used to have a huge selection of Handguns Rifles & Knives but now they seem to have dropped most of the quality brands and are stocking the Hibben Fantasy united cutlery and frost stuff.
(Also as a side note they are probably not going to be handling handguns much longer due to a lawsuit and prosecution for what i believe was a contrived charge of selling a handgun to someone with a forged license & information)

As for the Remington store, yes i remember going there about a year ago and picking up a Spiderco Endura. as i remember they didnt have that great of a selection. They sell mostly electric razors, cutlery, massage chairs & items.

Gun shows are really the only place ive seen a wide selection of knives but they too are increasingly suffering from the $4 knife syndrome.

In Valparaiso there is a store called Blythe's Sporting goods. On the second floor of the building they have a variety of archery, shooting, optics, and knife supplies. Also in Valparaiso is a store called Adventure Outdoors. They have a myriad of camping and outdoor equipment but their selection of knives is rather limited. The Remington store that was mentioned has since closed. There is Gander Mountain in Merriville/Hobart area which charges slightly more but they have a nice selection of pocket knives and pocket tools.

Whittler's Bench is an ok shop. It's the only real knife store I know of in Indy. I'd say that 20-30% of what they carry is quality. Maybe a dozen BMs, a few more CRKTs than that, and some custom stuff, but the rest is sub-par as far as I'm concerned. Not much extremely cheap, but nothing I'd want to carry.

Pop's Guns (about 5 minutes from WB) had a handful of BMs if I remember correctly, but the other 95% of the knives were CRKT.

The whittlers bench sounds like the most likely place to find a decent selection of benchmade and crkt's.

Ill have to try the blythe's in valpo. I've already checked out the Blythe's in hobart.

Actually, there is a gun store in our area called Midwest Gun Exchange It is in South Bend. As long as you don't catch them on a gun show weekend, there is always a display of popular tactical knives in the showroom. I'm willing to bet they have the second largest selection of knives to ours in the state but, of course, we don't display knives in a showroom or anywhere else other than our web sites. I'd call before I go to be sure they haven't packed up the inventory for a show. If you get there on a day when the knives are out I think you won't be disappointed.

The Remington store at Lighthouse place closed its doors some time ago.

That and the Gander Mountain store in Merrillville are about it for Northern Indiana, I'm afraid. There is nothing in Ft. Wayne. Take care.

Thanks, i think i may have seen midwest at one of the gun shows. I will give them a call.
