I've been putting the Burt Foster Camp knife I purchased through its paces. So far, I'm very well please in not only the cutting ability but way it the knife has kept a good edge. At some point though I'm need to sharpen the knife.
Not being worth squat in the freehand department I've always used the Lansky system until I moved into the large knives. I recently purchased the APEX sharpener. Anyone have any recommendations on angles for a camp knife and do you recommend the APEX for the Burt Foster in particular

If the knife works well for you as ground, you could just use the Apex to match the existing edge profile. Many ABS makers slack belt their edges, so if you do sharpen on the Apex, the first session can be a bit longer as the edge is reset. If the edge has significant curvature generally you adjust the angle so that you hit towards the last part of the edge and don't recut the entire bevel flat. In general fifteen degrees per side is a decent starting point for large knives which can see chopping work, you can go under or above that depending on how hard the work, it is rare to go ouside of ten to twenty.
