This has been one of my best weeks ever finding arrowheads! I found an ESEE AH1 in my mailbox on Monday and found the other three beauties today. I decided to take a "personal nature day" off from work and explore a favorite spot of mine along the Gila river down here in southeastern Arizona. I found the first arrowhead within an hour and the other two after climbing a bluff overlooking the river a few hours later. I also found the small torquise bead along the river on my way back. I believe these are either Hohokam or Salado. I have been surface hunting arrowheads all my life and these will make a nice addition to my collection! Any other collectors out there?

that is really cool!would love to just be walking down somewhere and find 100+ year old arrow heads

I use to hunt for arrowheads when I was a kid. Found quite a few nice ones. Cool post!

very cool find. I have hunter points and artifacts all my life. Over the years, I have had buckets of them. I have only a couple hundred special pieces now. I need to get pics.

That is so cool. I live in an area where Native Americans were common. Is there a trick or special skills involved in finding them. You know like panning for gold on the inside of the rivers bend; or is it just blind luck? I would love to find / collect some.

Thank You

Bill

Walk the freshly plowed fields. That's where I found most of mine as a kid.

I was thinking that the woods and paths around here have been walked and hiked so much that I would probably never find an old arrow head.

It's funny how something as elusive as "where to look", or what could "give you the upper hand" seems so simple once presented.

That's a great tip, and there must be others to help one find these little pieces of history.

Although New Ground season is over I'm going to go looking this weekend. If I can get rid of this #$%^ COLD I picked up.

Thank You

Bill

I find a lot of my arrowheads in places where there is a confluence of a river, creek or stream. Also, a good time to hunt is after a very heavy rain. And of course you need to be looking in an area of know native activity.

i have been looking for artifacts off an on for years. my cousin got me back into it pretty harcore. we have some places that have turned up hundreds of arrowheads. HUNDREDS all in small areas. on avg the ages of these are 2K to 6k years old.. here are a few pics of some we have found lately

in the west you possible could find some that old. but here in the east (NC where i am from) most are hundreds of years old to thousands of years old.. i am waiting for my clovis to shop up :D.. i have done a ton of reasearch on indian artifacts. love it

i have some tools that i have found but no pics... i found one stone that is smooth, fits in the palm of the hand with smoothed edged for great grip and the center has been worn down.. at first i was think it was use as a nutcracker of some sort but after some research and (to be honest some common sense) i have came to the conclusion that it was used as a bow fire rock. the center place that is worn down is perfectly centered and balaned well with a drill from wood. i have tried to make a fire with it and its perfect. other than the fact that i could not make the fire (my lack of skills not the rock lol).. ill take pics of that and post it over the next few days. it was found where we have found tons of artifacts.
