Went to the local flea market today and had some good luck. A seller had a couple of LB7's in very good/great condition. I paid $15 each for them. One is a 3 rivet and one is a 4 rivet. The 3 rivet has the showing steel front pin but looks to be unused. The 4 rivet has been used and sharpened but the blade looks close to 100%.

The 4 rivet has a higher grind line then the 3 rivet, 1/4" from top compared to 3/8". The 4 rivet has a solid spacer on the back bolster compared to the 3 rivet which has a 2 piece spacer. The 4 pin has a serial number and the 3 pin does not.
The tang stamp on the 4 pin is:"SCHRADE + U.S.A. LB 7" and the 3 pin is: "uncle henry (in script) SCHRADE + LB7 U.S.A."

The width seems to be the same on both. The 4 pin was .618-.621 and the 3 pin was .610-.615. The blade spine measured .124 on the 4 pin and .117 on the 3 pin.
The nail nick is higher on the 4 pin than the 3 pin.

Great info Phil and Larry, I have one or more of each version. It would be fantastic if all of this history from the archives could be compiled.

It is a volunteer effort. I have been doing just that, one pattern at a time with information gleaned from the archives. And adding all the research information I can dig out of my quite modest collection and other resources. Pick a pattern and dig in! What? You volunteered to tackle the LB7? Great! I look forward to reading your research!

Codger, did you just tag me? If so, I'll do my best as time permits. Everyone, please send me all of your LB7's so I can examine and catalog the manufacturing differences over the years. :)

Actually, I have very little knowledge, and NO LB7's in my collection. My forte' seems to be with the fixed blade patterns such as I have posted here in the past. Keeping up an exhaustive survey record of ebay appearances and details, asking other forum members, fingering knives at shows and dealers, and researching information stockpiled hither, thither and yon including our own archives goes a long way toward providing enough information to be useful to us collectors. There is really no time limit on the effort, and it may keep you up nights adding constant revisions, but we all gain from the effort. Perhaps the compiled researches might be available with next year's forum knife.

I look forward to reading what you find!

Any other volunteers?

Codger

P.S.- excellent Schrade grovel! Lobo and I have been remiss in this area lately!
