Sometimes the luck is with me!

Dear Sirs,

Two weeks ago I found an unused Buck 901 in the bay. I paid appx. 20 bucks for it. That's not too much I think. It would be nice if you help me to find out when it was made, how many were made, and how the blade is to sharpen.

Many thanks for your answers,

Best regards,
Haebbie ;)

yep is not a bad price at all,,,, it is one i have not seen tell now...

Hey guys,

Isn't anybody out there who has an idea where i can get the wanted informations?

Well the question how to sharpen the blade was a joke. But the other questions ... Also it would be interesting what the retail price of the BB901 was.

It seems, that the buckle was an wholeharted product that was classified in the product range of Buck.

With the request to answers,

best,
Haebbie

Is there a date or year of production on it Haebbie?

No, Knifeschmied, there's no date or date mark on it.
It would be nice if it has a mark with the date code. There's nothing like that.

But I think there's a hidden hint. The pictured 110 on the front of the buckle is a fifth version, second variation from 1972. What do you think, is that also the date when the buckle was made?

Best,
Haebbie

I can't help myself, but the face of the Blacksmith looks like Godfather Death

Yes, I would think the knife on the buckle dates it to that time period. I believe the blacksmith is supposed to be founder Hoyt Buck.

I can tell you that the "Buck has it all" logo on the backside of the buckle is an early 1990s Buck advertising item. I have some Buck literature from that period that uses this logo. I also have this buckle and an identical one in a "pewter" or silver look as I recall. I may be off on the shade but it is definitely a metallic look.

Thanks a lot, Larry, for the hints. Thereupon I had a look at the Buck Dealer Catalogs from the early nineties and found this logo from '91 to '93. But the buckle was not to find. I'm curious for more informations.

Haebbie

When I read your first post I thought, how in the world did he buy a 901 Bowie knife for only $20!!
I have seen those buckles but dont have any info on them at all. I really don't think they are a Buck product but I could be wrong. I can say without a doubt that Buck did not actually make them but they possibly could have had something to do with their creation.
I know that is not much, sorry.

That was a good joke with the number, Joe, wasn't it? But i hoped to get more informations.

I think that the buckles were made by order of Buck. And as Larry wrote it happended appx. 15 years ago. Isn't there anybody in the factory who knows a bit more? Was it a giveaway or was it for sale? It seems that there ar not so many of them outside.

But thank you for your answer and no offence meant weather the kidding with the "901".

Best regards,
Haebbie

Hi Guys,

now I foud a real 901 with burlwood handle. It came NIB as a limited edition. But it is not serialized. Aren't the Scimitar serialized from 1 to 100 of 100? Or does Buck sell some of these knifes out of this range.

Many thanks for an answer,

Haebbie

Haebbie...

Somewhat related...I have a phenolic 901 that has "58" stamped on the blade.
That's it. No reference to "58" of what (?).
