I was in a gun store and came across an unused blackjack panga. I knew about blackjack but never heard of the panga. Is has no sheath or box but was only 10.00 dollars. Can you tell me if its a good chopper and what kind of steel it is?
done a quick google , seems blackjack pangas come in 1095 but with a blade coating and 440a stainless , all nice and shiny looking , this info may be way wrong tho ... just going from a quick browse of a couple dealers sites
you did tho , score a bargin
I have one and I wouldn't use it for heavy chopping, the edge is really thin on those. My blade has a bit of a ripple in it from going after something a little too heavy.
Too thin and light to be a "chopper." For "light brush." The sheath mine came with was made of very thin material. Any carelessness in sheathing the knife would cut it to shreds.
What's the edge angle like? Couldn't you thicken it out a little? The Mora #333 machete I have came with an edge so thin that it would dent and buckle when hitting woody stemmed plants, but after bringing it to 30 degrees inclusive it's able to handle seasoned oak without an issue. And that thing is super thin.
