Look at that crap

I hate seeing stuff like that. They even go so far as to use silver boxes. Any little detail to fool the uninformed knife buyer. I wouldn't buy anything from that brick and mortar store.

Unfortunately it's a rather large chain. Although I've been told their online and in-store businesses are separate, they share the same name. This was at a Cheaper Than Dirt location in North Texas. I'm not sure if Kershaw does anything to fight knockoffs (like the thread in the spyderco forum), but just wanted to expose this one. It just looks like crap.

In what city precisely is this CheaperThanDirt? They do and I can send some contact info to their legal team who'll throw some hot stuff over to them.

It's the store in ft worth Texas. It's in their retail store which is actually called cheaper than dirt outdoor adventures

Thank you! Was the Boa the only copied model or were there others there as well? Shooting info over to legal as I type this... :)

Hmm that was the only one that stuck out when I was browsing through their knives. They had quite a few Kershaw, Benchmade, and Spyderco knives on one side, and then about 5x as many chinese knives (mtech and the like). I just happened to look down and see that Boa copy. Feel free to use the picture I posted in your email if you'd like.

Website for the actual store (http://cheaperthandirtretail.com/)

:thumbup::thumbup: Way to go knivesandguns! And I know this is not the first time you have done this.

Good spotting 00ChevyScott!

Wow. The uninformed buyer definately better beware!

Hmm. What if I were to take my real Boa into the store with me and get a manager or someone and tell them they're selling counterfeit products? I know Knivesandguns was going to contact Kershaw's legal team but I don't think that did any good. I don't want to act on Kershaw's behalf, but that is some BS right there.

I did forward it to legal, but unfortunately there is only so much legal can do :(

I am not a lawyer, but since it is not coping the logo of Kershaw, I think you would have a hard time getting them to stop making the knife, and I am sure the store manager would not care, nor would his sale be illegal as once again they are not labbeld as Kershaw products. Of course I agree this is the theft of a pattern, but as always this can be a more of a moral issue then legal one. A slight change ( maybe even internal and not visible) can make it a different knife legally. The company "Super Knife" copies every ones patterns. They are imported by a few of the big guys and they also import Asian make autos, mostly that are copies of the USA pattern ones, as I have seen them in the silver boxes marked with their name....

You should bring in your video camera and confront him, Id like to see his response.

Tough area... particularly since there would have to be proof that the copies were hurting Kershaw in a financial way (lost sales etc..) tougher still with a pattern they no longer make.
