Visiting my wife's parents and stopped at a local shop and they had quite a few old Benchmades (recognized them based on the box style) just sitting there and I found the 790 right in the middle of everything. Couldn't turn down the chance at getting one brand new, especially since the price on the box was $189.

Only problem is I am left handed, so I need to figure out if I can do something with the thumbstub, actually learn to use my right hand, or put it up as a safe queen for a few years.

Temped to go back and dig into the older stuff some more later, I didn't really write down what they had other than remembering they had 2 Resistor's also.

Pics since they are required.

Beautiful. As a fellow lefty, I feel your pain. So many great knives out there that are not left hand friendly.

Nice find and without First Production numbers. This knife look much like the custom flipper Matthew Lerch and Ken Stigerwalt designed. Slim, light, and fast opening; I have one and it's a favorite. Congrats!

very nice find.

im a back and forth hand user, not quite an ambi. cant do everything with both hands well. i like right handed knife use and southpaw shooting. ive learned to use both hands for firearms and knives. it was uncomfortable at first but youll be surprised how fast ya learn and get comfortable. solves a lot of issues.

Yea, I think it's time I learn to use knives right handed so I can switch around, and carry a backup offhand.

I was playing around yesterday and deploying assisted, OTF, autos feels better in my right hand, I feel like my grip overall is more secure. Manual deploy feels better in my left hand since I am normally doing an axis button manipulation with my thumb.

The thumb screw has a torx bolt holding it in, it is reversible.
Undo the torx bolt holding the thumb stud in place, swap the sides and using a set of pliers with padded jaws (to keep from marring the finish) and tighten down.

Now you just have to worry about manipulating the lockbar.

Nice knife. Enjoy it!
