Found a buck 110 at a pawn shop....what on earth did I find?

Ok, so I stop by a local pawnshop today chasing a manix 2 xl that they had there, but the owner had pulled it out of the showcase, and I'm thinking he isn't gonna sell it. He also had a few other knives that I will mention at the end of this post

So I start looking around the shop and in the showcases, and the first thing I look at is a a mid 80's 110, base model, decided it wasn't for me, then saw another 110.

I asked to see it had bone handles of some sort, or at least I think that it was bone. It looked like it had been stored in its sheath, as the corners of bolsters were all scuffed up (and not gonna come clean easily...unfortunately). The last thing that peaked my interest is the blade, by looking at the sharpening job it seems to me that whoever owned this knife before it ended up in the pawn shop knew something about blade care...or so I hope, it had a nice convex edge to it, without any chips or what not. the sheath looked near perfect.

The blade stamp (correct me if I am wrong) dates it at 1990.

Now then, before anyone asks, yes, I did buy it....for a whopping 26 bucks :D Did I get a good deal?

The shop has had a guy coming in every few weeks from what I understand and liquidating part of his knife collection, and frankly, I believe them, they had a Gill hibben original in there, as well as 3 buck custom shop blades and the biggest case fixed blade I have ever seen, looked like a spear head...they had one other knife that I am very very close to trying to get, a scagel series #8, sweet traditional single blade slip joint (not small either), I'm gonna go back tomorrow and see if I can wheel and deal for it...I have a straight razor that I think will work good on a trade...but that is beside the point

On to the pictures of the 110, I would appreciate any information that anyone can give me, I can provide more pictures upon request

there is some sort of liners under the bone, anyone know what it is?

I have not been able to find any information on it so far, for all I know, it is a custom shop blade (which I seriously doubt I got that lucky). The bone does have a purplish tint to it in certain light as well

thanks for all the info, and if I get the scagel tomorrow, I will post pictures in the trad forum

oh, and this is the first 110 that I have ever owned, my step dad keeps one in the glove box of his truck, but its never used.

This is from the 1990 catalog. Your knife was made in 1990 as shown by the X next to 110 on the tang. No, it's not a custom shop knife, they were a regular production knife.

wow, that was faster that usual (which is fast as it is)
I didn't think it would be, but hey, I now have even less reason to not use it (I'm gonna use the heck out of it)

I think I did good though for 26 bucks (no pun intended), these were the 420 stainless steel blades correct?
also, how common are these now?
I don't care about the value (I'll pay 26 bucks, so that it is value), just more of a curiosity,

$26 is a terrific deal on that knife. I don't know what the material is under the scales but the blade steel would be 425M. The didn't change to 420H until around 1994.

They aren't that rare but you don't see them every day either, so the chance of your Buddy whipping one out just like it isn't likely. Enjoy it.

Nice catch! I would take many of them at that price. As Plum said, not a super $$ knife, but out of the ordinary and a great user with some flare to it.

Again, good eye to catch it. I picked up a white delrin (think that was it) 110 a few years back which a bud on here was interested in for a few bucks at a pawn shop. They are a good place to look for 110's since they think all of them are worth $20 or so.

They come up fairly frequently on the auction sites. Not a rare knife, but a good find for the money.

the chance of my any of my buddies taking any knife out is dependent on what knife I have given them lol. I think this one will be staying in my personal collection. I like it enough that I won't get rid of it, the more I mess with it, the more I like the feel of the bone scales in my hand. They had this one prices at 30 before tax, but gave it to me at 26 out the door, I had offered 25...it looks close to new to me (not like NIB though). The 110 is just a tank of a knife it feels like to me. The funny thing is, they had a basic 110 for 10 bucks more, needless to say I grabbed this one pretty quick

I think it is going to reside on my belt for a few weeks now, maybe take the place of my ZT0350 that I'm gonna try and trade him for the scagle I was talking about (along with a straight razor of mine too)

The one in that link is one of them with a damascus blade, I'm sure that's why it went for so much.

I saw that one actually, and another one that went for 15 more, both were red bone, I still havent found a non damascus brown bone sale that I can reference for my curiosity (and to help decide how generous I will be when I go there chasing any other knives)

also, I have what seems to be permanent fingerprints on the brass bolsters as well as a few other spots that have similar blemishes, is there any way to restore them to their original brass without a buffer?

edit: found one here, it was NIB, but judging by that I really scored,

also, I know nothing about the 425M blade steel, what can I expect from it compared to some of the common steels today?
