First - I was going to post this in Bernard Levine's forum but did a search first and found the answers to my questions regarding rough production date. He poseted this back in 2001:

...Cattaraugus made a small cleaver about this same size after WWII. Checkered black one-piece handle and chrome-plated chrome vanadium alloy steel blade -- just like both their kitchen knives and their hunting knives of this time period. Beveled on only one side of the blade.

BRL...

Second - I keep reading about all the great finds out there but have never stumbled across one 'til today. This is my first real "find".

My sister-in-law is moving into a new (to her) house. House was built in the mid-50's. In one of the work bench drawers was this little cleaver.

Knowing I'm a knife nut, she let it follow me home.

As you can see, I haven't cleaned it up yet. Wanted to show it off in the condition it was found first ;).

Not sure what I'll do with it yet but it makes an interesting addition to the pile of knives.

Thanks for looking,

Chris

Boy, this is just too weird.

Thanks to Rupestris' photo, I recognized the blade shape & placement of 'Cattaraugus' on the blade; I found one of these at thrift store today. Brand new, factory edge, checkered brown & black handle.

I'll get at least a cellphone pic up later.

thx - cpr
