Not sure if it’s worth the asking price. Sits on what i am guessing is an old 24-28 inch haft. Head is maybe 2 1/4 lbs

Best guess of year and is it worth $110

I could not help much with the year- maybe 1960's ?? That is only a guess.

110.00----- not to me! Sorry, but fooling with axes so much the past 5 or 6 years has made me real picky. 100.00 + in my mind is top quality axes that are hard to come by. Peavey, Spiller, E&S, Connecticut or Jersey patterns with almost no wear. That pattern and era Craftsman is not hard to find. I will admit it looks like someone did a nice job cleaning it up.

I hear ya. I got picky after collecting rifles, but only after i got experience. i will keep looking and learning and really want axes that need fixin. Thanks
DN

Worth no more than $50 at the most, because it's common not terribly old and has some decent wear to the bit ( that's the edge ).
It's most likely a late 50's-early 60's axe, definately on the later side and the pointed A in the craftsman logo changed to a barn roof A sometime between '68-'70 I believe.

I think I sounded a bit arrogant so I will add thought. A person just looking for a tool can crack out a CC, buy the tool and be down the road.

Once you start restoring tools, you find the pride in making a "broken" tool good again. 110.00 for that tool, and it would likely serve a person the rest of their days, is not such a big deal. But you buy it, us it and hang it on a peg.

OR You take the time to find a neglected head, tune it up, fit a handle, shape the handle to your liking. For one third the money you have a treasured tool that you poured your time and talent into. In the end, it is worth FAR more to you than the purchase price.

I had over 150 axes and heads at one time. But I found them, bought them and put them with the others. Not I have maybe 30 but I lay hands on every one and am working to make them all treasured tools again.
You have started down the road of appreciating a tool for more than what work it can accomplish.

Imalterna i knew exactly what you meant and you didn’t come off as arrogant. I really am looking for axes that someone broke or let them become unsightly due to neglect. Then acquire for a pittance to tinker with and trial and error restore it to a working tool. Practice makes perfect and it is also as i’ve said somewhere before, a form of therapy. I need lots of therapy.
Went to the local flea market today. Pretty much a big strike out. Two of the few venders that were there said they had an axe but sold them last week?
Also while there two people asked for items i actually have collected and looks like i will be getting some ax money lol. So a good morning out.

Good deal. Yes, I remember when I said I was just going to buy 5.00 heads and refurb as an excuse to work in the basement.
LOL!! I'd rather not think about all the money I have spent since! There is a head on the auction site for 230.00 right now that I am digging through the couch looking for change to buy. Thankfully, I do not have it.

I went through CAD(Chainsaw Addiction Disorder), it was hard to kick but I made it out the other side with only two saws left. ACD(Axe Collecting Disorder) was as bad but I am finally getting that one under control. My wife is grateful my OCD does not extend to collecting wives. I assured her that I was crazy, not insane! :)

At one point I had around 80 axes/hatchets/adzes but I'm thinning them down drastically. I think I'm down to 30-40 now and I've got another round of sorting in the cards. Also, at one point me and my brother had over 80 saws at once. Now we're each down to ~12 and still have a few left to sell. I think one can have CAD or AAD without fear provided it doesn't interfere with other aspects of life and you don't build new buildings just to house your stuff in. Also, I've almost always made money or at least broken even when selling saws and most of my axes were given to me so I don't really have to make money off of them. I enjoy fixing stuff so if I can not lose money or even make money doing that I'm happy.

I fully understand the appeal of a nice Craftsman boy's axe. Here's mine:

Head weighs a hair shy of 2 lb, 2 3/4 lb overall. I cleaned up the mushrooming on the poll and pulled the wedge, as the head was quite loose. I do plan to rehang it on the same haft, as it appears to be original. I purchased it at an antique fleamarket BC (before Covid). I had to give $5 for it because the dealer wouldn't take $4 for it!
