While searching the antique store today I found a double bit with C.M. McC....then it gets tough to read out of Knoxville, TN. Original handle in great condition. Also found an old Collins Pick Axe I didn't even know they made. Can you guys help with any info? Pics attached.

I am from East TN near Knoxville, but I haven't heard of axes marked that way. That might be a cool thing to keep my eye out for.

The Collins pickaxe might be a fake. Collins had a real problem with copycats. I'd like to see a picture of the whole tool and see if it's listed in any of the Collins catalogs. Might be a fine tool but I've never seen that Collins stamp before. My spidey sense is tingling.

I thought the same and have never seen "THE" above collins company, which you have to look at the edge to see. But it was $6.50, so if it was a fake must have been faked long ago. Heres the whole tool.

I don't know about that specific stamp, but The Collins Company (of Collinsville, Conn.) is listed as a manufacturer of mattocks in this 1966 publication:

1966 - ‎Snippet view - ‎More editions
Collinsville, Conn., U.S.A. Manufacturers of Axes, Machetes, Hatchets, Shovels, Mattocks, Hoes, Hammers, etc. Established 1826.

Collins Co. (of Collinsville, Conn.) is also listed as a maker of mattocks in this 1899 publication:

Seeger and Guernsey's Cyclopædia of the Manufactures and Products of the United States, United States Industrial Publishing Company, 1899
